The Momo Obsession
The story unfolds in the Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh, where a Class 7 student's everyday craving for momos, a popular street food typically costing
between Rs 50 and Rs 100 per plate, spiraled into an unimaginable crisis. What started as a simple desire for the snack soon transformed into a disturbing pattern. Initially, the stall operators at Dumri Chauraha on the Deoria-Kasya road accepted cash for the momos. However, as the boy's personal funds dwindled, a sinister ploy began to emerge. The youths running the stall allegedly began to entice him, suggesting that he could acquire his favorite street food in exchange for valuables from his home. This manipulation preyed on the child's innocence and his unbridled desire for the popular dumplings, setting the stage for a significant loss.
Jewellery Vanishes
The devastating extent of the boy's misguided transactions came to light when his aunt visited the family home on a Sunday and inquired about her jewellery. To their utter shock and dismay, the family discovered that all the precious ornaments were missing from their safekeeping. Upon questioning, the minor confessed to his involvement, revealing that he had been handing over jewellery from his household to the three youths operating the momo stall. The sheer value of the missing items was staggering – nearly Rs 85 lakh. This revelation sent shockwaves through the family, highlighting the extent of the deception and the boy's unwitting participation in it. The father, who serves as a temple priest in Varanasi, was compelled to file a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused.
Police Action and Recovery
Following the family's complaint, the Rampur Karkhana police station initiated an investigation. Authorities swiftly took action, arresting two of the accused individuals – a young man and a woman who were directly involved in the momo stall operation. The police have also managed to recover a portion of the stolen jewellery, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the distress. However, the third accused remains at large, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend them. The incident has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 305, underscoring the seriousness of the charges. This case serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities that can be exploited, even in the context of something as commonplace as street food.
