Nature's Office Blueprint
Challenging conventional office aesthetics, a remarkable workspace has emerged in Delhi, taking the form of a tree and deeply rooted in natural inspiration.
This distinctive environment, known as Atrey Design Studio and conceived by architect Arun Sharma, deviates from typical industrial and minimalist designs. Its exterior features a grey facade surrounded by lush greenery and plants, with a subtly tilted structure. Upon entering, visitors are enveloped in a cozy atmosphere that prioritizes a biophilic design philosophy. This approach aims to enhance occupant well-being by incorporating natural elements and patterns into the built environment. The interior is characterized by polished marble floors, abundant indoor plants, and thoughtful design choices that maximize the ingress of natural light, creating a serene and invigorating workspace that feels far removed from the urban bustle outside.
Innovative Interior Zones
The Atrey Design Studio unveils a series of distinct zones, each meticulously crafted to enhance the user experience and foster creativity. The VR Room serves as a client engagement hub, simulating a cozy den complete with a striking skylight, textured walls, ambient lighting, and plush seating. A unique stone coffee table and elegantly designed side tables add to its modern appeal. Adjacent to this is the meeting room, which, despite its seemingly simple office table, offers an immersive connection to nature through its integration with an internal courtyard. A single, significant decorative piece—a wooden log sourced from the Ganga—anchors the room, complemented by warm ambient lighting. Even the basement conference room benefits from clever design that channels natural sunlight, alongside a mesmerizing waterfall feature visible through glass walls, creating a tranquil backdrop for discussions.
Bohemian and Rustic Touches
Further enhancing the office's unique character are its bohemian-inspired coffee bar and a rustic contemplative space. The coffee bar, adjacent to the conference room and its waterfall, boasts a charming thatched roof and minimal plant decor, evoking the relaxed ambiance of a beachside establishment. Quirky jute lamp fixtures and a smooth wooden bar countertop complete the aesthetic. Nearby, a room designed for quiet reflection features a striking barren tree, a simple wooden bench, and strategically placed plants. The wall is a canvas of patterned stones, adorned with hanging plants, offering a raw, natural texture. These elements, along with the multi-tiered jute chandeliers in the conference room, contribute to an eclectic yet harmonious design that celebrates natural materials and artisanal craftsmanship, providing diverse environments for work and relaxation.
Elemental Harmony Philosophy
The overarching design philosophy behind this extraordinary office stems from the architect's profound connection to nature, particularly inspired by his experiences in the Himalayas and by the sacred Ganga river. The architect articulated that the design aims to achieve a complete balance of the five elemental forces: fire, sky, air, earth, and water. This holistic approach is evident in the integration of natural light, ventilation, water features, and the use of natural materials throughout the space. By drawing on these profound natural influences, the Atrey Design Studio transcends the traditional definition of an office, transforming it into a sanctuary that nurtures creativity, promotes well-being, and fosters a deep connection with the environment, embodying a philosophy of elemental harmony.
