UK Goes Digital
The United Kingdom has fully transitioned to an electronic visa system, phasing out physical visa stickers in passports as of February 25, 2026. Most successful
applicants will now receive their visa electronically via the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) platform, rather than a vignette in their passport. This digital status is directly linked to the traveler's passport, enabling real-time verification by airlines and border control. While biometrics submission will still require a visit to a visa center, passports are typically returned immediately post-appointment. This significant overhaul aims to bolster security measures, minimize fraudulent activities, and expedite border processing for enhanced efficiency.
Japan's New Rules
For those dreaming of a trip to the Land of the Rising Sun, a key procedural update is in effect from March 2026. Indian nationals applying for a Japanese visa in cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Puducherry, and Bengaluru must now schedule an appointment beforehand. The option for walk-in applications has been discontinued. This measure is implemented to better manage the increasing volume of applications and to ensure a smoother processing experience at VFS Global centers. It is highly recommended for applicants to initiate their visa application process well in advance of their travel dates, ensuring all necessary documentation, including detailed travel itineraries and proof of accommodation and financial stability, is meticulously prepared for the scheduled appointment.

These changes are designed to streamline procedures, foster expanded academic collaborations between Indian and French institutions, and expedite the visa processing for students aspiring to study in French universities. This strategic move aligns with France's commitment to increasing the presence of Indian students, particularly in sought-after fields such as business administration, technological innovation, and hospitality management, over the coming years.
