Performance Champion Crowned
In a significant moment for electric automotive performance, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N has been honored with the 2026 World Performance Car award. This esteemed
accolade was presented at the New York International Auto Show, recognizing the vehicle's exceptional capabilities and engineering prowess. The Ioniq 6 N outperformed notable contenders, including the BMW M2 CS and the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray, solidifying its position as a leader in the high-performance electric vehicle segment. This victory marks Hyundai's second consecutive win in this category, following the success of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N in 2024, underscoring the brand's commitment to pushing the boundaries of electric performance.
Engineering Prowess Unleashed
The Ioniq 6 N's triumph is a testament to its sophisticated powertrain and advanced technological integration. It features a robust 84.0kWh lithium-ion battery, capable of delivering an astonishing output of up to 641bhp and 770Nm of torque, especially when the N Grin Boost function is engaged. This potent combination allows the vehicle to achieve an exhilarating acceleration of 0–100km/h in just 3.2 seconds, with a top speed reaching 257km/h. The performance is further enhanced by a dual-motor setup, a specialized thermal management system designed to optimize battery performance under strenuous conditions, and the innovative N e-shift technology, which ingeniously simulates the gear-shifting experience found in traditional internal combustion engine vehicles.
Industry Acclaim & Criteria
The World Car Awards jury, comprised of 98 automotive journalists from across the globe, subjected eligible vehicles to rigorous real-world testing. This extensive evaluation process involved hands-on assessments, dynamic test drives, and detailed comparisons to ensure a fair and comprehensive selection of winners. To be considered for the World Performance Car title, vehicles must meet stringent criteria, including a minimum annual production of 1,000 units and a design philosophy fundamentally centered around performance. Furthermore, the vehicle must have been available in at least two major automotive markets on two continents between January 1, 2025, and March 30, 2026. Even significantly updated versions of existing models are eligible if their enhancements are specifically aimed at improving performance and meet the award organizers' precise guidelines.
