Rainfall Across Key Districts
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has signaled an impending wet spell across various parts of Maharashtra, with specific alerts issued for key
urban and coastal areas. As of April 6, 2026, the forecast indicates that Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar are likely to experience light rainfall. This initial phase of precipitation is expected to be followed by thundershowers in these regions as well as in Dhule, Nandurbar, Nashik, and the ghat sections of Nashik on April 7. This weather event is predicted to be localized rather than widespread, emphasizing the need for residents in the affected districts to stay informed about sudden atmospheric shifts and be prepared for potential disruptions. The IMD's district-wise warning underscores a nuanced approach to weather forecasting, identifying pockets of activity rather than a uniform pattern across the state.
Western Maharashtra Forecast
Looking towards western Maharashtra, the weather patterns are anticipated to become more dynamic later in the week. Kolhapur and its surrounding ghat areas are projected to witness light rain and thundershowers towards the conclusion of the forecast period. Further south, Sangli is slated to receive light rain on April 9, with an escalation to light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thundershowers expected on April 10. These predictions suggest a progressive shift in weather conditions, gradually affecting different sub-regions within western Maharashtra. While central and southern Maharashtra, including districts like Pune, Satara, Ahilyanagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Washim, and Yavatmal, are expected to remain largely dry, the localized nature of these weather events highlights the importance of checking specific forecasts for each locality.
Thunderstorms in Vidarbha
The eastern Vidarbha region is also under a weather advisory, with certain districts bracing for more intense atmospheric activity. The IMD has issued a warning for parts of Bhandara, Gondia, and Nagpur, forecasting thunderstorms coupled with lightning. These areas may also experience moderate rainfall and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph. Additionally, districts such as Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, and Wardha could witness isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning. These regions are expected to see light to moderate rain along with winds ranging from 30-40 kmph. The alerts for Vidarbha indicate a higher probability of significant weather disturbances, emphasizing the need for caution among residents in these specific districts.
Fishermen Advisory and General Caution
In light of the anticipated rainfall in Mumbai, Thane, and Nashik, along with the potential for thunderstorms in parts of Vidarbha and western Maharashtra, a general advisory has been issued. While no specific warnings have been directed at fishermen at this time, all residents across the state are being urged to exercise caution. Staying updated with the latest official weather bulletins from the IMD is paramount, especially for those residing in or traveling through the affected areas. The localized nature of the weather means that conditions can change rapidly, and awareness of these forecasts is crucial for ensuring safety and preparedness throughout the state.
