The much-anticipated Noida International Airport (DXN), situated in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, is poised to commence operations in June 2026. This ambitious
project aims to significantly transform regional connectivity, making previously distant tourist hotspots like Agra and Mathura more accessible and budget-friendly. Upon its initial launch, the airport will feature one operational runway, equipped with 10 aerobridges and space for 25 aircraft parking stands. The facility is designed to handle approximately 65 daily flights, encompassing domestic, international, and cargo services, marking a significant step forward in India's aviation infrastructure development.
Strategic Location Benefits
Nestled in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, DXN boasts a prime location just 700 meters from the bustling Yamuna Expressway, providing seamless road connectivity. This strategic positioning drastically cuts down travel time to key destinations. For instance, reaching Agra, home to the iconic Taj Mahal, will take less than two hours from DXN, a remarkable reduction compared to the over four-hour journey from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA). Phased Expansion Plans
The Noida International Airport is envisioned as a multi-phase development project. In its inaugural phase, the airport will operate with a single terminal and runway, capable of managing 65 daily flights. However, the long-term vision is expansive, with plans to eventually accommodate six runways. Upon full completion by approximately 2040, DXN is projected to handle an impressive capacity of over 1 lakh flights and a staggering 70 million passengers annually, positioning it as a major global aviation hub.
Affordable Travel Options
A significant advantage of the new Noida International Airport will be its impact on travel costs. A taxi journey from DXN to Agra is estimated to cost around Rs2000, which is half the price of a similar trip from Delhi's IGIA. This cost-effectiveness extends to accessibility, making popular pilgrimage and tourist sites like Mathura and Vrindavan, as well as Aligarh, reachable within a two-hour drive, thus encouraging more visitors to explore these areas.
Airline Partnerships Announced
Major domestic carriers, IndiGo and Akasa Air, have confirmed their operational presence at the Noida International Airport. These airlines will connect DXN to key Indian cities and international destinations, including Zurich, Dubai, and Singapore. Initially, the airport will facilitate 30 daily flights, comprising three international routes and 25 domestic connections. The domestic network will span across important cities like Lucknow, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Dehradun, and Hubli, among others, enhancing travel options within India.
Booking and Day Trips
Excitingly, flight bookings for Noida International Airport have already commenced, with IndiGo and Akasa Air offering domestic flights starting June 15. The airport's convenient location also makes it an ideal launchpad for day trips to the rich cultural heritage sites of North India, including the Taj Mahal and the sacred towns of Mathura and Vrindavan.
