celebrated route, connecting Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district to the popular hill station of Ooty in the Nilgiris, has long been a magnet for travellers. Its historical significance is underscored by its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2005, drawing enthusiasts and tourists alike to witness its unique charm. The train traverses a winding path, offering unparalleled vistas of dense forests, rolling hills, and the serene landscapes that define this picturesque region of Southern India, making it a truly unforgettable experience for all who board.
Summer Service Details
To cater to the increased influx of visitors during the warmer months, the Salem Railway Division has introduced a dedicated summer service. This special train is scheduled to run every Friday and Sunday from March 27th through July 5th, facilitating travel from Mettupalayam to Ooty. The inaugural journey for this special service departed Mettupalayam at 9:10 am, offering passengers ample time to soak in the spectacular scenery unfolding outside their windows. The return journey from Ooty to Mettupalayam is facilitated on Saturdays and Mondays, commencing March 28th and concluding July 6th. This dual-direction service ensures convenient travel options for those wishing to explore or depart from the cool climes of Ooty.
Regular and Special Timings
Beyond the special summer schedule, the regular train service continues to offer a comfortable morning commute. Passengers can depart Mettupalayam at the standard time of 7:10 am, arriving in Ooty by 12 pm, a journey that allows for a leisurely start to the day. The special summer train, on its initial departure, set off at 9:10 am from Mettupalayam, providing a slightly later start for those who prefer it, while still ensuring plenty of daylight hours to appreciate the breathtaking panoramas. The special service's operation on Fridays and Sundays for the Ooty-bound journey, and Saturdays and Mondays for the return trip, aims to provide enhanced accessibility and flexibility for tourists planning their visits during this peak season.
