Indian Railways is set to introduce a significant upgrade to its long-distance travel options with the recent approval of a new Vande Bharat Sleeper train
service connecting Bengaluru and Mumbai. This exciting development, confirmed by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw through correspondence dated April 5, 2026, will establish a direct overnight link between Karnataka's capital, KSR Bengaluru Railway Station, and Maharashtra's bustling commercial hub, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai. This initiative follows closely on the heels of the successful launch of the Kamakhya–Howrah Vande Bharat Sleeper, which saw impressive demand and high occupancy rates, underscoring the growing public appetite for enhanced overnight rail experiences. The Bengaluru–Mumbai route is a crucial addition to the government's ambitious plan to deploy 12 such sleeper rakes across the country by the end of 2026, aiming to bolster intercity connectivity and provide a more comfortable and efficient travel solution for passengers traversing longer distances.

The introduction of the Vande Bharat Sleeper between Bengaluru and Mumbai is poised to offer a substantial enhancement in passenger convenience and intercity connectivity. Sources point towards a route that mirrors that of the Udyan Express, connecting Bengaluru to Mumbai via key cities such as Pune, Solapur, Kalaburagi, Raichur, and Guntakal. The Vande Bharat network, which began its journey in 2019 with the New Delhi–Varanasi route, has seen exponential growth in popularity, serving over 9.1 crore passengers across 1 lakh trips.
