Expressway Inaugurated
On April 29th, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially unveiled the highly anticipated Ganga Expressway, marking a significant milestone for Uttar Pradesh's
infrastructure development. This expansive corridor aims to revolutionize travel and commerce by linking the western city of Meerut with the eastern hub of Prayagraj. The inauguration event, held in Hardoi, signifies the beginning of a new era for connectivity within the state, promising to drastically reduce journey times and stimulate economic activity along its extensive route.
Toll-Free Period
In a special introductory offer, the Ganga Expressway will be completely toll-free for a period of 15 days following its inauguration. This announcement, made by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Labour Day, provides a valuable opportunity for commuters to experience the benefits of this modern highway without any financial burden. This temporary waiver is designed to allow the public to familiarize themselves with the route and its efficiencies before toll collection commences, offering a welcome period of savings for all travelers.
Significant Savings
The 15-day toll-free period presents a considerable financial advantage for motorists. Based on a standard rate of Rs 2.55 per kilometer for cars, a full journey from Prayagraj to Meerut could save drivers approximately Rs 1,515. For small commercial vehicles, the savings escalate to around Rs 2,405, while larger vehicles like buses and trucks can anticipate avoiding nearly Rs 4,840 in toll charges per trip. These cumulative savings, especially for those who travel frequently, offer substantial relief and enhance the economic viability of using the expressway for both personal and commercial purposes.
Future Toll System
Following the initial 15-day toll-free period, regular toll collection will be implemented. The specific toll rates are awaiting formal approval during an upcoming cabinet meeting. To ensure a streamlined and efficient experience, all toll payments will be processed exclusively through FASTag, facilitating seamless, cashless transactions for all users. The expressway will operate on a closed toll system, meaning vehicles will encounter toll plazas only at entry and exit points, eliminating the need for stops at intermediate locations and thus optimizing travel flow.
