Widespread Flight Disruptions
Significant disruptions have impacted air travel between Goa and the Gulf region, with most flights being cancelled until March 28. This widespread suspension
stems from rising hostilities in West Asia, prompting aviation authorities to advise against flying over sensitive airspace. Airlines like Air India Express and Qatar Airways have confirmed cancellations to major hubs such as Dubai and Doha. Gulf Air has also halted services from Goa International Airport, Dabolim, to Bahrain until March 26. Passengers are strongly encouraged to stay updated with their respective airlines regarding rescheduling options, potential refunds, and any alternative arrangements that may become available during this period of uncertainty.
Affected Airports and Airlines
The current travel advisories have led to notable flight suspensions from both of Goa's primary airports. At the Manohar International Airport in Mopa, Qatar Airways has cancelled its services to Doha until March 28. Meanwhile, flights from the Goa International Airport in Dabolim to Bahrain, operated by Gulf Air, are suspended until March 26. In contrast, Air Arabia's service to Sharjah from Manohar International Airport continues to operate, offering a limited connection for some travelers. These cancellations are a direct consequence of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation's (DGCA) guidance to avoid airspace over nine West Asian countries, including Iran, Iraq, Israel, UAE, and Qatar, due to recent military actions and heightened regional tensions.
Navigating Travel Challenges
The current geopolitical situation in West Asia has created considerable challenges for thousands of travelers. With direct flights to the Gulf region suspended, many passengers departing from or arriving in Goa are finding themselves stranded. This also affects those planning onward journeys to Europe, who are now forced to seek out more complex and indirect travel routes. The disruptions, exacerbated by Iran’s reported attacks on infrastructure, have significantly impacted flight operations across the Gulf. Passengers are advised to maintain close contact with their airlines for the latest information on refunds, flight status, and rebooking possibilities as the situation evolves.
