Pets Dictate Stays
The way Indian pet owners approach holidays has fundamentally changed, with their pets now playing a pivotal role in decision-making. Gone are the days when
pets were an afterthought; they are now the primary consideration when planning a trip. Data indicates a significant global and regional trend where pet-friendly accommodation is a top search filter. In India, this translates to owners being highly discerning about where they stay, often basing their final decision on whether a property welcomes their pets, showing a clear preference for establishments that cater to their animal's needs. This marks a substantial evolution in how travel is conceptualized, moving beyond human preferences to encompass the comfort and suitability for beloved pets, ensuring a truly inclusive holiday experience for the entire family, including the four-legged members.
Itinerary Tailored for Paws
The influence of pets extends far beyond just the place of stay, deeply impacting the entire travel itinerary. Indian pet parents are actively choosing activities that accommodate their animals. This includes opting for nature hikes in rural settings or local parks, where pets can roam freely and safely. Sightseeing also gets a pet-friendly makeover, with many exploring city centres and towns that welcome animals. Dining experiences have transformed too, with a considerable number of owners seeking out dog-friendly patios, restaurants, and breweries. Furthermore, leisure activities like visiting beaches or swimming areas are now evaluated based on their pet-friendliness, ensuring that pets are integral to every aspect of the holiday experience and not just present.
Road Trips Reign Supreme
Travel methods are also being reshaped by the needs of pets, with road trips emerging as the preferred mode of transport for a vast majority of Indian travellers. A staggering 93% of surveyed Indian travellers expressed a preference for flexible road trips, a choice directly linked to the enhanced ease and convenience of travelling with pets. This mode of travel offers unparalleled flexibility, allowing owners to make spontaneous stops for their pets' needs, whether it's for a quick walk, a water break, or simply to allow them to stretch their legs. The ability to control the pace and schedule of the journey provides peace of mind and reduces stress for both the pet and the owner, making road travel the most accommodating option for this growing segment of pet-conscious travellers.
Practicalities of Pet Travel
While pets are now central to travel planning, practical considerations remain a significant factor for Indian travellers. Nearly half of pet owners, specifically 47%, acknowledge leaving their pets behind at their accommodation while they venture out for specific activities or meals. This highlights the critical importance of accommodations and services that can adequately support pets in their owners' absence. Such facilities might include pet-sitting services, designated pet play areas within the property, or even in-room amenities tailored for animals. This understanding underscores the evolving landscape of pet-friendly travel, where not only the presence of pets is accommodated, but also their well-being and care are considered when owners need brief periods of separation for their own activities.
