New Cafe Opens
Ranchi's Birsa Munda Airport has joined the growing network of UDAN Yatri Cafes, a government initiative aimed at providing affordable refreshments to
air travelers. The recent inauguration saw Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu present, who personally sampled the offerings. This expansion signifies a commitment to making airport amenities more accessible and pocket-friendly for the common citizen, a core tenet of the broader UDAN scheme. The presence of the minister and his positive engagement with the Rs 10 chai underscore the initiative's success in bridging the gap between high airport prices and passenger expectations.
About UDAN Yatri Cafes
UDAN Yatri Cafes are a vital component of the 'Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik' (UDAN) scheme, designed to democratize air travel. The fundamental challenge addressed by these cafes is the often exorbitant cost of food and beverages at airports, which can deter budget-conscious travelers. By establishing these outlets, the government ensures that essential refreshments like tea, coffee, and snacks are available at nominal prices, with items such as tea and bottled water often priced at Rs 10, and snacks like samosas and coffee at Rs 20. The first UDAN Yatri Cafe commenced operations at Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on December 19, 2024, and has since expanded to 25 locations across India, making airport experiences more pleasant and economical for all passengers.
Nationwide Expansion
The establishment of the UDAN Yatri Cafe at Ranchi Airport marks a significant milestone, bringing the total number of these affordable refreshment outlets across India to 25. This widespread presence is a testament to the successful implementation of the UDAN scheme's objective to enhance regional air connectivity and reduce travel barriers for ordinary citizens. Each of these 25 cafes offers a consistent menu that includes basic necessities like water, tea, and coffee, alongside popular regional snacks. The standardized pricing, with many items costing no more than Rs 10 or Rs 20, provides a much-needed respite from the typically high costs associated with airport dining, ensuring that passengers can enjoy a quick bite or a hot beverage without significant financial strain, thereby improving the overall travel experience.
