Explore Scenic Routes
Rocky Mountaineer presents travelers with several distinct, multi-day rail excursions designed to showcase the unparalleled beauty of the Canadian landscape.
The most popular options are the 'First Passage to the West' and 'Journey Through the Clouds,' both typically spanning two days. The 'First Passage to the West' route commences in Vancouver and concludes in Banff, navigating through the Fraser Valley and offering iconic sights like Castle Mountain. The 'Journey Through the Clouds,' also originating in Vancouver, proceeds to Jasper, highlighting natural wonders such as Pyramid Falls and Mount Robson. For a more extensive exploration, the 'Rainforest to Gold Rush' itinerary stretches over three days, commencing in Vancouver and traversing from the coastal fjords to the historic gold rush territories before arriving in Jasper, with overnight stops in Whistler and Quesnel. Additionally, adventurers can combine two routes for a comprehensive four or five-day 'circle journey,' providing an even deeper immersion into the diverse terrains. Occasionally, special, limited-time routes may also be available, offering unique travel opportunities for those seeking something beyond the standard offerings.
US Southwest Adventure
Expanding its unique travel offerings, Rocky Mountaineer introduced 'Canyon Spirit,' a sibling rail experience that ventures into the stunning canyons and deserts of the American Southwest. This route, originally known as 'Rockies to the Red Rocks,' journeys between Denver and Moab, Utah. The itinerary includes an overnight stop in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, famous for its large mineral hot springs. An optional extension to Salt Lake City is now also available. This experience maintains the high standards of service, dining, and amenities synonymous with the Rocky Mountaineer brand. Passengers embarking on this route will witness a dramatic shift in scenery, transitioning from the Colorado Rockies to the distinctive red rock formations of the Southwest. Highlights include traversing the Continental Divide, passing through the Moffat Tunnel, and enjoying spectacular views of Ruby Canyon and Mount Garfield. The destination, Moab, serves as an ideal gateway to explore iconic national parks like Arches and Canyonlands, making it a compelling alternative for those seeking a different yet equally remarkable rail adventure.
Service Class Options
Rocky Mountaineer ensures every guest enjoys a comfortable seat with ample legroom, breathtaking panoramic views through expansive windows, and exceptional onboard service, including delightful meals and beverages. The journey is further enhanced by engaging hosts who share captivating stories about the regions traversed. A key feature of all Rocky Mountaineer journeys is that the train travels exclusively during daylight hours, ensuring passengers don't miss a single moment of the spectacular scenery. Overnight accommodations in charming towns along the route are included, with a variety of hotel options to suit different preferences. Guests are encouraged to extend their stays before and after their rail journey to fully explore the destinations. For those seeking distinct levels of luxury, two primary service classes are available: GoldLeaf and SilverLeaf. GoldLeaf represents the premium experience, featuring a bi-level coach with a dining room on the lower level and spacious seating with dome windows on the upper level, offering unparalleled views and gourmet, chef-prepared meals. SilverLeaf provides an equally enjoyable experience with comfortable seating in a single-level coach, large panoramic windows, and meals prepared off-board and warmed on board, alongside access to a small outdoor viewing area.
Canyon Spirit Tiers
For the Rockies to the Red Rocks route, now operated by Canyon Spirit, two distinct service tiers are offered: Signature Experience and Premier Experience. Unlike the multi-level Rocky Mountaineer coaches, Canyon Spirit trains utilize single-level cars, accommodating the route's need to pass through various tunnels. The Signature Experience is an all-inclusive package providing comfortable, pre-assigned seating, large domed windows for optimal sightseeing, authentic Southwestern-inspired cuisine, and a selection of beverages. For an elevated journey, the Premier Experience builds upon the Signature offering by granting access to an exclusive lounge car, a private outdoor viewing platform for an even more intimate connection with the surroundings, and enhanced dining and personalized host service. Both tiers ensure a high-quality, immersive exploration of the dramatic desert landscapes, blending comfortable travel with the adventure of discovering the American Southwest's unique geology and history.
