Giridih Incident Unfolds
In Giridih, Jharkhand's Dumri police station area, a grave incident occurred at a dental clinic involving 24-year-old Sunita Devi. She had sought treatment
for a tooth extraction, a common dental procedure. However, her health took a severe turn during the process, ultimately leading to her demise. Following this devastating outcome, the dentist, identified as Dr. R.K. Singh, reportedly abandoned the clinic and fled the scene. Local law enforcement was promptly notified and arrived to secure the premises. The clinic has since been sealed, and a thorough investigation has been initiated by the authorities. Sunita Devi's grieving family has filed a formal complaint against the dentist, strongly alleging medical negligence. This disturbing event has ignited significant concerns regarding the caliber of healthcare services offered in some private dental establishments and the credentials of those practicing within them, prompting a closer look at patient safety protocols.
Palamu Case Deeper Dive
A parallel tragedy struck in Palamu, Jharkhand, where 35-year-old Bijanti Devi lost her life after a tooth extraction at the Janata Dental Clinic in Hariharganj. Her husband, Mukesh Chandra Bharti, filed a First Information Report (FIR), suspecting incorrect administration of injections or medication as the cause. Bharti recounted that his wife visited the clinic on a Tuesday morning due to a painful, partly broken tooth, having heard of previous treatments from villagers. The dentist, Ashraf Ali, examined her, checked her blood pressure, and recommended a blood sugar test, which registered around 140. Following this, Bijanti Devi was taken for the extraction, during which the area was numbed with injections. Approximately an hour later, the dentist prescribed further medication and advised another injection. Bharti alleges that a compounder administered this injection, and immediately afterward, Bijanti Devi began vomiting, her condition rapidly deteriorating. Within moments, her face paled, and she became unresponsive. The dentist reportedly offered to arrange an ambulance but instead locked the clinic and fled. Despite being moved to a private child hospital and then a community health centre in Hariharganj, she was declared dead upon arrival. Police have registered a case and are investigating, awaiting postmortem reports. Palamu Civil Surgeon Anil Shrivastava confirmed the clinic's sealing and alluded to potential operational irregularities, noting that both the dentist and the compounder are currently absconding. Authorities are diligently examining the exact cause of death, including the types of drugs used and adherence to proper medical procedures.
