Widespread Rainfall Brings Relief
On Tuesday, a series of showers swept across Uttar Pradesh, leading to a substantial decrease in maximum temperatures. Many areas experienced readings
significantly lower than the usual for this time of year, according to meteorological data. In the state capital, Lucknow, the peak temperature registered at a cool 28.0 degrees Celsius, a considerable 11.4 degrees below the average, while the overnight low settled at 20.2 degrees Celsius, also down by 3.4 degrees. Rainfall was recorded in numerous districts, with Etawah receiving 5.5 mm, Muzaffarnagar 7.0 mm, and Agra 4.4 mm. Jhansi observed 3.5 mm of precipitation, and light drizzles were noted in places like Hardoi, Varanasi, Orai, Sultanpur, and Bareilly, indicating a scattered pattern of rain across both western and eastern Uttar Pradesh. This cooling trend provided a welcome respite from the preceding sweltering conditions that had gripped the state.
Temperature Plummets Statewide
The recent rainfall caused a remarkable dip in daytime temperatures across Uttar Pradesh. Kanpur recorded a high of 29.4 degrees Celsius, an impressive 11.1 degrees below its normal temperature, while Etawah saw 30.0 degrees Celsius, also 11.5 degrees cooler than average, accompanied by 5.5 mm of rain. Further east, cities like Barabanki and Basti experienced maximum temperature drops exceeding 10 degrees below their seasonal norms. In eastern Uttar Pradesh, Varanasi registered its maximum temperature around 32 degrees Celsius, approximately 8 degrees lower than usual. Prayagraj reported a high of 33.6 degrees Celsius, nearly 7 degrees below average. The Bundelkhand region's Jhansi recorded 35.0 degrees Celsius, about 6.9 degrees below normal, alongside 3.5 mm of rainfall. These significant temperature decreases highlight the impact of the widespread weather system on the state's climate.
Weather Forecast & Warnings
The India Meteorological Department anticipates that the likelihood of rain or thundershowers will persist in isolated spots across Uttar Pradesh over the next 24 hours. For Lucknow and its surrounding areas, a partly cloudy sky is expected, with potential for thunder development. Maximum temperatures are predicted to be around 31 degrees Celsius, with minimums hovering near 20 degrees Celsius. The weather office has also issued advisories for thunderstorms and lightning, which may be accompanied by gusty winds. Wind speeds in western Uttar Pradesh could reach 30-40 kmph in certain areas, while eastern parts might experience stronger gusts of 40-50 kmph, potentially reaching up to 60 kmph, with an increased possibility of hailstorms. Several districts, including Prayagraj, Varanasi, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, and Ballia, are flagged for potential thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. Isolated hailstorm activity is specifically forecast for districts such as Gorakhpur, Deoria, Mathura, and Kannauj.
