Ayurveda's Sustainable Advantage
Modern life, with its fast pace and evolving habits, often leads to health issues such as chronic stress, diabetes, and elevated blood pressure. Haryana's
Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini, has emphasized that Ayurveda stands out as the most effective and enduring system for addressing these lifestyle-related diseases. He highlighted that Ayurveda doesn't just treat symptoms but fosters a comprehensive sense of well-being, encompassing physical vitality, mental clarity, and spiritual harmony. This ancient practice offers a deeply rooted approach to health that is inherently sustainable, promoting balance rather than quick fixes. The Chief Minister's remarks were made during the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Dhanwantri Ayurvedic College and Hospital in Chandigarh, underscoring the ongoing relevance and governmental support for Ayurvedic practices in India.
Government's AYUSH Boost
The Haryana government is actively invested in fortifying the AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy) sector. Significant efforts are underway to enhance the infrastructure of Ayurvedic institutions, encourage groundbreaking research, and broaden the professional landscape for AYUSH practitioners. A major development is the establishment of Krishna AYUSH University in Kurukshetra, a project backed by an investment of approximately Rs. 500 crore, with affiliated colleges. This strategic expansion also includes setting up AYUSH wings across all districts under the National Health Mission. To bolster preventive healthcare, yoga experts have been appointed in these wings. Furthermore, the recruitment of 572 AYUSH medical officers aims to extend AYUSH services to the grassroots level. The transformation of 400 Ayurvedic dispensaries and 138 sub-health centres into Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AYUSH) is a testament to this commitment, alongside the ongoing establishment of Panchakarma centres in every district.
Infrastructure Development
The commitment to enhancing Ayurvedic healthcare infrastructure is evident through several key projects. The construction of Baba Khetanath Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital in Patikara (Narnaul) has now been successfully completed, signifying a new center for Ayurvedic education and treatment. Beyond this, multiple AYUSH institutions and hospitals are in various phases of development and construction in districts such as Nuh, Ambala, Hisar, and Panchkula. These developments are crucial for expanding access to quality Ayurvedic care and ensuring that these ancient healing modalities are available and accessible to a wider population, contributing to the overall health and well-being of the state's residents.
Yoga and Preventive Health
The global acclaim of yoga, a cornerstone of preventive healthcare, has been significantly amplified by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative, which led to June 21 being recognized as International Yoga Day. In alignment with this, the Haryana state government is dedicated to promoting yoga in rural communities. This initiative involves establishing dedicated yoga and Vyayamshalas (exercise centers) in 6,500 villages across the state. To date, an impressive 965 Vyayamshalas have become fully operational, with work actively progressing on another 139 such facilities. This widespread rollout of yoga centers underscores the government's proactive approach to integrating physical and mental well-being into the daily lives of rural populations, leveraging the inherent benefits of yoga for health maintenance and disease prevention.
Future of Ayurveda
Addressing the students who represent the future of Ayurvedic medicine, the Chief Minister urged them to carry forward this profound ancient system of knowledge. He stressed the importance of adapting these timeless principles to meet contemporary needs through innovation, unwavering dedication, and research-driven advancements. By integrating modern scientific methodologies with traditional Ayurvedic wisdom, these future practitioners can ensure that Ayurveda remains a vibrant and relevant force in global healthcare, capable of addressing the complex health challenges of the 21st century and beyond.
