More Than a Custom Shop
For those unfamiliar, Mulliner is not just a trim line; it is Bentley’s personal commissioning division, a direct link to a history of coachbuilding that predates the car itself. Having been formally integrated with Bentley in 1959, Mulliner is responsible
for the brand's most exclusive and bespoke creations, from unique colour combinations to entirely new, coachbuilt vehicles. In an era where deep-pocketed clients demand one-of-a-kind vehicles, Mulliner’s role has become more critical than ever. The division has seen demand for its services triple since 2020, with customers now requesting an average of seven bespoke features per car. This new Supersports theme is the latest and perhaps most dramatic example of Mulliner flexing its creative and technical muscles.
A Uniquely Asymmetrical Statement
The heart of the new Design Theme is a feature never before seen on a production Bentley: a side-to-side paint fade. Instead of a traditional front-to-back fade or a simple racing stripe, the paint transitions across the car's width. A vibrant, bold colour on the driver's side blends seamlessly into a darker, more subdued tone on the passenger's side. This asymmetrical design is intentionally driver-focused, with the bright colour always following the person behind the wheel, regardless of whether the car is left- or right-hand drive. This is complemented by an off-centre stripe aligned with the passenger seat and a subtle number '8' graphic on the grille, reinforcing the car's performance-oriented, two-seat nature.
Three Curated and Bold Palettes
Mulliner has launched the theme with three distinct, curated specifications that apply to both the exterior and the interior of the car. The 'Dragon' theme features a striking Dragon Red fading to Black Crystal, with a corresponding Hotspur and Beluga interior. The 'Electric' theme offers a more subtle Electric Blue to Dark Sapphire fade, paired with a vibrant Klein Blue inside. Finally, the 'Brodgar' specification provides a contemporary look with a Pale Brodgar to Brodgar exterior, complemented by a Camel and Beluga cabin. While these three packages are the headline acts, Mulliner emphasizes that clients can still commission alternative colours, underscoring the truly bespoke nature of the service.
The Driver-Focused Cockpit
The asymmetric concept extends assertively into the two-seat-only cockpit. The interior adopts a two-tone layout where the brighter, more vibrant colour surrounds the driver's seat, while the darker tone is used for the passenger side. This creates a visual and psychological cocoon for the driver, enhancing the motorsport-inspired, driver-centric mission of the Supersports. The specification includes Bentley's Full Leather Specification, with unique Supersports perforation patterns on the seats and door inserts, a contrast gear lever, and custom stitching on the dashboard and headrests. It’s a holistic design where every element inside and out serves the same purpose: to celebrate the act of driving.
The Business of Being Bespoke
Debuting at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Supersports Design Theme is a powerful business statement. In the ultra-luxury segment, where performance figures are often comparable, extreme personalization is the final frontier of exclusivity. This isn't just about offering more paint colours; it's about showcasing a level of artistry and technical capability that competitors cannot easily replicate. The side-to-side paint fade, a complex and time-consuming process, is a clear signal of Mulliner's mastery. By creating such a visually arresting and labour-intensive option, Bentley is reinforcing its brand as the pinnacle of handcrafted luxury and attracting a clientele that values and is willing to pay for unparalleled individuality.
