Introducing the RS 6 Avant GT
Meet the Audi RS 6 Avant GT, a machine that is much more than just a car; it's a statement. Born from the minds of Audi's top engineers and designers, this special edition is a road-going tribute to the brand's motorsport prowess. Its design is a direct
nod to the fearsome 1989 Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO race car, a vehicle that dominated American race tracks and proved the supremacy of all-wheel drive on tarmac. The GT borrows that car's aggressive spirit, most noticeably in its heritage livery of red, grey, and black over a crisp white body. But the changes are more than skin deep. For the first time on an RS 6, the bonnet and front fenders are crafted entirely from carbon fibre, not just for looks, but for weight reduction and a lower centre of gravity. A redesigned front bumper with a more aggressive splitter and a unique double-decker rear wing inspired by motorsport complete the transformation, making the GT look wider, lower, and angrier than its already potent sibling.
Faster, Sharper Performance
Underneath the special bodywork, the RS 6 Avant GT builds on the formidable foundation of the RS 6 Performance model. The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine produces a staggering 630 PS (621 horsepower) and 850 Nm of torque. This immense power allows the GT to rocket from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds, a tenth of a second quicker than the Performance model, on its way to a top speed of 305 km/h. But straight-line speed is only part of the story. To earn the 'sharper' label, Audi Sport has fitted the GT with manually adjustable coilover suspension as standard for the first time. This allows dedicated drivers to fine-tune the car's handling for the perfect balance of comfort and agility. The quattro sport differential on the rear axle has also been retuned to send more power to the rear wheels in 'dynamic' mode, giving the car a more agile and playful character. Coupled with stiffer anti-roll bars and ultra-high-performance Continental tyres, the GT is engineered to be the most driver-focused RS 6 ever built.
A Tribute to a Racing Legend
The soul of the RS 6 Avant GT comes directly from the track. Its inspiration, the Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO, was a monster built for a single purpose: to win. In 1989, Audi entered the GTO into the highly competitive American IMSA series, where it went up against powerful V8 rivals. With its turbocharged five-cylinder engine producing over 720 horsepower and the revolutionary grip of its quattro system, the GTO became an icon. The RS 6 Avant GT channels this history not only through its optional livery but also through its engineering philosophy. The project was inspired by a concept built by Audi apprentices in 2020, who wanted to capture the spirit of the GTO. The result is a car that celebrates Audi's transition from rally dominance to circuit racing success, reminding everyone of the brand's deep performance roots.
The Definition of Rare
What truly sets the RS 6 Avant GT apart is its exclusivity. Audi has confirmed that only 660 units will be produced for the entire world, instantly making it a future classic and a coveted collector's item. Each car will feature a unique serial number on the centre console, marking its place in this extremely limited production run. This rarity is further highlighted by a unique assembly process. The cars are partially built at Audi's main plant before being transferred to the Böllinger Höfe facility, where the R8 supercar was made. Here, a small, dedicated team completes the final assembly by hand, including the fitting of the carbon fibre panels, the unique suspension, and the distinctive double wing. This bespoke treatment, combined with the limited numbers and high performance, guarantees that the RS 6 Avant GT is not just a car you buy, but one you acquire.
