Unlike the premium, fully air-conditioned Vande Bharat trains, the Amrit Bharat consists of non-AC sleeper and general unreserved coaches. The primary focus is on serving long-distance passengers, including students, families, and migrant workers, who rely on affordable rail transport. The interiors mark a substantial improvement over conventional passenger trains, featuring cushioned berths, foldable snack tables, mobile charging sockets for every passenger, and modern bio-vacuum toilets. Safety and convenience are also prioritized with CCTV cameras in every coach, a public information system, and fully sealed gangways that reduce noise and improve stability between coaches.
The Technology Driving a Better Journey
One of the most innovative features of the Amrit Bharat Express is its use of 'push-pull' technology. Each train is equipped with a locomotive at both the front and the rear. This setup allows for much faster acceleration and deceleration, significantly reducing travel time, especially on routes with frequent stops. The push-pull configuration also eliminates the need for time-consuming engine reversals at terminal stations, further improving operational efficiency. The trains are designed to run at a maximum speed of 130 kilometres per hour, making them one of the fastest options in the non-premium segment. The Seven New Lifelines of Connectivity
The latest expansion introduces seven crucial routes that will connect major industrial, educational, and pilgrimage hubs across the country. The newly approved services are: 1. Dhanbad to Coimbatore: A vital link connecting the coal capital of Jharkhand to the industrial hub of Tamil Nadu. 2. Gorakhpur to Delhi: This route will serve one of the country's most dense passenger corridors, providing a much-needed modern option. 3. Gorakhpur to Bandra Terminus (Mumbai): Connecting eastern Uttar Pradesh with the financial capital, this will be a boon for the thousands who travel for work. 4. Charlapalli (Hyderabad) to Gorakhpur: This service will create a new direct link between Telangana and eastern Uttar Pradesh via central India. 5. Prayagraj to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (Mumbai): Another key route strengthening connectivity between Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai. 6. Prayagraj to Udhna (Surat): This train will connect the spiritual city of Prayagraj with the commercial center of Surat in Gujarat. 7. Subedarganj (Prayagraj) to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (Mumbai): A third new service from the Prayagraj region to Mumbai, highlighting the immense demand on this corridor. These routes have been strategically chosen to cater to high-demand corridors and reduce pressure on existing train services.
