The Most Powerful Urus Ever
At the heart of this beast is a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain. Lamborghini has taken its proven 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and paired it with an electric motor to create the Urus SE Performante. The result is a staggering combined output of over 800
horsepower, officially making it the most powerful Urus to date. This hybrid system delivers a massive surge in power compared to the previous Performante model, which relied solely on a gasoline engine. The integration of the electric motor provides instant torque, launching the SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in a claimed 3.3 seconds. Despite the added weight of a 25.9-kWh battery pack, the performance figures are breathtaking, keeping its top speed around 312 km/h, which helps it retain the title of the world's fastest production SUV.
Sophisticated Control Systems
All that power would be useless without the means to control it. Lamborghini has introduced a suite of advanced technologies to give the driver unprecedented command. A key innovation is a new dual-chamber air suspension system called 'AURA'. This system is designed to provide a dynamic range, offering track-ready stiffness for aggressive driving while maintaining comfort for daily use by significantly reducing body roll and vibrations. The vehicle also benefits from a new '6D' sensor suite that monitors the car's every movement—pitch, roll, and yaw—to adjust its dynamics in real-time. An electronically controlled rear differential with torque vectoring ensures power is distributed effectively to all four wheels, enhancing grip and stability through corners.
Aerodynamics and Design with Purpose
The aggressive new look of the Urus SE Performante is not merely for show; every new line and vent serves a purpose. Extensive use of carbon fibre for parts like the hood, roof, and diffuser helps to shed weight compared to the standard SE model. The redesigned bodywork, including a new front splitter and a prominent dual-spoiler setup at the rear, significantly increases aerodynamic downforce. This pushes the car onto the road at high speeds, improving stability and cornering confidence. Even the cooling has been optimised, with new ducts integrated to improve thermal management for both the powerful hybrid powertrain and the brakes.
The Hybrid Advantage and Driving Modes
The move to a plug-in hybrid system offers more than just raw power. The Urus SE Performante can travel over 50 kilometres on electric power alone, allowing for silent, emission-free driving in urban environments. This dual personality is managed through a range of driving modes. In addition to the standard Strada, Sport, and Corsa modes, the Performante introduces a new 'Rally' mode. This setting is specifically calibrated for low-grip surfaces like gravel, adjusting the suspension and torque distribution to allow for maximum excitement and controlled slides when driving off the beaten path. The eight-speed automatic transmission has also been retuned for quicker shifts and more immediate response.
