A New Three-Tier Strategy
Effective from July 2026, Land Rover has streamlined the Discovery lineup in India into a clearer three-tier structure. The range now consists of the entry-level S, a brand-new mid-tier Landmark Edition, and the flagship Tempest Edition. This move simplifies
the decision-making process for prospective buyers, clarifying the distinct offerings at each price point. The previous Dynamic S and Metropolitan Edition trims will be phased out to make way for this revised structure, which aims to better define the Discovery’s role as a premium seven-seat family SUV. The core appeal of the vehicle remains, but the packaging has been thoughtfully refined to cater to different buyer priorities.
Introducing the Landmark Edition
The centerpiece of this refresh is the new Landmark Edition, which slots neatly between the S and Tempest models. This variant is all about celebrating the Discovery's rich heritage. It gets an exclusive Tasman Blue metallic paint finish, a colour that pays homage to the Clearwater Blue offered on the original 1989 Discovery. The exterior is further distinguished by Graphite Atlas finishing on the grille and fender vents, along with Carpathian Grey skid plates. It rides on newly designed 21-inch wheels finished in Dark Agate Grey. Inside, the Landmark Edition boasts practical luxury features aimed at families, including a sliding panoramic sunroof and a convenient centre console refrigerator, making it ideal for long journeys. Unique Landmark branding on the tread plates and puddle lamp projections round out its special character.
Upgrades Across the Range
The updates are not limited to the new edition. The flagship Tempest model also receives enhancements, solidifying its top-tier position. It now offers a new exclusive Borasco Grey paint option, which comes with a matte protective film as standard for added durability. Inside, the Tempest gains 20-way massage front seats as a standard feature, along with new interior colour combinations for its Windsor leather upholstery. Even the entry-level Discovery S gets a meaningful upgrade, now coming standard with the powerful P360 six-cylinder petrol engine and factory-fitted roof rails. Furthermore, all models in the refreshed Discovery lineup will benefit from a driver attention monitoring system as part of the standard equipment.
Proven Power and Unmatched Capability
While the look and features have been updated, the core DNA of the Discovery remains untouched. The SUV continues to be offered with a potent 3.0-litre six-cylinder mild-hybrid diesel engine that produces 350hp and 700Nm of torque. The introduction of the P360 petrol engine as standard on the S trim ensures that buyers have a choice of powerful and refined powertrains. All models come equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission and Land Rover's legendary all-wheel-drive system. The brand’s sophisticated Terrain Response 2 system remains a key feature, allowing drivers to optimize the vehicle for various conditions with ease. Its formidable off-road credentials, including a 900mm water-wading depth and a 3,500kg towing capacity, are still class-leading.
Strengthening its Market Position
This calculated refresh is Land Rover’s strategic response to a bustling luxury SUV segment populated by strong competitors like the BMW X7, Mercedes-Benz GLS, and Audi Q7. By simplifying the lineup and adding heritage-inspired cosmetic touches and desirable features, Jaguar Land Rover India is sharpening the Discovery’s appeal. The focus on practicality, such as the console refrigerator in the Landmark Edition and standard roof rails on the S, reinforces its positioning as the go-to vehicle for discerning families who demand both luxury and adventure-ready versatility. While pricing for the new Landmark Edition has not been officially announced as of early July, the revised structure provides a clearer value proposition for buyers in the premium space.
