Isar Aerospace is a German startup, founded in 2018 and based near Munich, that is at the forefront of Europe's 'New Space' movement. The company has developed a two-stage rocket named Spectrum, designed to launch small and medium-sized satellites weighing

A Historic Success From Norway
On September 5, 2026, Isar Aerospace achieved a major milestone by successfully launching its Spectrum rocket into orbit from the Andøya Spaceport in Norway. This was the first time a commercial European company had delivered satellites to orbit from continental Europe. The mission, nicknamed 'Onward and Upward', was Spectrum's second flight attempt. An initial test flight in March 2025 ended in failure shortly after liftoff. Following its historic success, Isar Aerospace will focus on scaling up production to meet a growing order pipeline. The company has stated its factory is designed to eventually produce up to 40 Spectrum rockets per year. Several future launches are already on the manifest for 2026 and beyond, with customers including Airbus and the German Aerospace Center (DLR). Isar is also expanding its global footprint, with plans for an additional launch site in Nova Scotia, Canada.
