A Storm-Inspired Masterpiece
Unveiled at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Huayra 70 Derecho is not just another hypercar; it is a rolling sculpture created by Pagani's 'Grandi Complicazioni' special projects division. The name 'Derecho' is taken from a rare and powerful type
of storm system known for its intense, straight-line winds. This moniker perfectly captures the car's essence: a force of nature that moves with precision and unrelenting impact. It is the second of three special '70' models created to celebrate the 70th birthday of company founder, Horacio Pagani, making it an exceptionally rare piece of automotive history. Even though the Huayra's successor, the Utopia, has been introduced, these special editions prove that the Huayra platform remains a canvas for some of the automotive world's most spectacular creations.
The Heart of the Beast: An AMG V12
At the core of the Derecho's immense power is a bespoke, twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 engine sourced from Mercedes-AMG. This German powerhouse produces an astonishing 852 horsepower and 1,100 Nm of torque, channeled directly to the rear wheels. But what makes the Derecho a true enthusiast's dream in the modern era is its transmission. Pagani has opted for a seven-speed manual gearbox developed by Xtrac, complete with an iconic exposed gate shifter in the cabin. This choice rejects the trend of faster-shifting dual-clutch automatics in favor of a more direct, mechanical connection between the driver and the machine. It’s a statement that for customers at this level, the driving experience and engagement are just as important, if not more so, than pure speed.
Obsessive Craftsmanship in Every Detail
While the engine provides the muscle, the body and interior showcase Pagani's legendary obsession with detail. The exterior is finished in a unique Pearl Orange and Inky Blue livery, but this is no ordinary paint job. The finish is semi-transparent, allowing the intricate 'fish-bone' weave of the car's advanced carbon-titanium monocoque to show through. Milled aluminum components are anodized in a Glossy Titanium finish, gracing the bodywork and matching the custom titanium alloy wheels. This attention to detail continues inside, where Ceramic White and Tricolore Blue leather are stitched together with sartorial precision. The gear knob and a 12 o'clock stripe on the steering wheel are finished in the same Pearl Orange as the exterior, creating a seamless aesthetic dialogue between the interior and exterior.
A Celebration of an Enduring Legacy
The Huayra 70 Derecho is more than just a commission; it's a celebration of Horacio Pagani's journey. From his humble beginnings in Argentina to becoming a master of carbon fiber at Lamborghini and eventually founding his own company, Pagani's story is one of relentless passion. His philosophy, inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's principle of blending art and science, is evident in every component of the Derecho. The Grandi Complicazioni division exists to fulfill the specific dreams of its clients, turning them into co-creators in a process that can take many months of design and collaboration. The result is a car that is not only a high-performance machine but also a deeply personal statement, a unique synthesis of the owner's vision and the atelier's unmatched skill.
