What Are Amrit Bharat Trains?
Before diving into the new routes, it's helpful to understand what makes the Amrit Bharat Express different. These trains are a new category of superfast passenger trains designed to provide a comfortable, high-speed travel option for long-distance journeys
at an affordable cost. Unlike the fully air-conditioned Vande Bharat trains, Amrit Bharat services consist of non-AC sleeper and general class coaches, targeting the needs of a larger segment of the population, including migrant workers and students. They employ a clever 'push-pull' technology, with a locomotive at each end of the train. This allows for faster acceleration and deceleration, reducing overall journey time. Inside, passengers will find a host of modern amenities, including cushioned berths, mobile charging points at every seat, CCTV cameras for enhanced security, modern bio-toilets, and fully sealed gangways that reduce noise and allow for smoother movement between coaches.
The New Lifeline to Mumbai
One of the most significant additions is the weekly Gorakhpur-Bandra Terminus (Mumbai) Amrit Bharat Express (15085/15086). This service will be a boon for the thousands who travel between eastern Uttar Pradesh and the financial capital for work and personal reasons. The train will depart from Gorakhpur every Friday and from Bandra Terminus on its return journey every Saturday. Its route is extensive, connecting several key cities and towns along the way. Major proposed stops include Basti, Gonda, Kanpur Central, Agra Fort, Kota, Ratlam, Vadodara, and Surat before it reaches its final destination in Mumbai. This service aims to ease the immense pressure on existing trains on this high-demand corridor, providing a much-needed, structured, and modern travel alternative.
A Faster Track to the Capital
Simultaneously, a new weekly Amrit Bharat Express (15095/15096) will connect Gorakhpur directly to Delhi. This overnight service is designed for convenience, departing from Gorakhpur every Thursday night at 10:45 pm and reaching Delhi the next day at 12:50 pm. The return journey will commence from Delhi every Friday afternoon. The train will cover the approximately 780-kilometre distance in about 14 hours, a significant improvement over some existing services. Key stops on this route include Basti, Gonda, Sitapur, Bareilly, and Moradabad, improving connectivity for passengers from these intermediate locations as well. By providing a faster and more comfortable option, this train will cater to students, professionals, and families travelling to the national capital.
Impact on Purvanchal's Connectivity
The introduction of these two Amrit Bharat services is more than just the addition of new trains; it represents a strategic upgrade to the rail infrastructure of the entire Purvanchal region. Eastern Uttar Pradesh has long been a major source of migrant labour for metropolitan cities, and reliable, affordable transport is crucial for the region's economy and its people. These new trains are expected to alleviate overcrowding on popular routes, providing a safer and more dignified travel experience. Improved connectivity also fosters economic activity, making it easier for traders and small business owners to access larger markets. As Indian Railways continues to modernize its fleet, the expansion of the Amrit Bharat network is a critical step in ensuring that the benefits of development are shared across all sections of society, making travel more accessible for millions.
