Understanding Jeevan Pramaan's Core Function
Jeevan Pramaan is a government initiative that allows pensioners to digitally submit their annual life certificate using Aadhaar-based biometric authentication. This system eliminates the need for pensioners to physically visit their Pension Disbursing
Agency (PDA), which is typically a bank or post office. Once a pensioner authenticates their identity using a fingerprint, iris scan, or face authentication, a Digital Life Certificate is generated. This certificate is then stored in a central repository, accessible to the pensioner's bank to verify that they are alive and eligible to continue receiving their pension.
The Crucial Role of Your Bank Account
Your bank isn't just where your pension is credited; it's the agency responsible for verifying your life certificate. When you generate a Jeevan Pramaan, you must provide several key details, including your Pension Payment Order (PPO) number, Aadhaar number, and the bank account number where your pension is deposited. The Jeevan Pramaan system sends your DLC electronically to this specified bank. The bank then matches the information in the DLC with the records they have on file. If everything aligns, your certificate is approved, and your pension continues without interruption.
The Problem: When Bank Details Don't Match
Complications arise when the bank account details you enter while generating your Jeevan Pramaan do not exactly match the records held by the bank. According to bank guidelines and the Jeevan Pramaan portal, a mismatch is one of the primary reasons for the rejection of a DLC. This happens because the automated system cannot find a corresponding pensioner record to validate against. The bank's system sees the incoming DLC as belonging to an unknown or incorrect account, leading to an automatic or manual rejection. An SMS alert is often sent to the pensioner's registered mobile number if a rejection occurs.
Common Reasons for Mismatched Bank Details
Several scenarios can lead to outdated or incorrect bank information. A common cause is bank mergers, where account numbers and, more frequently, IFSC codes have changed. If a pensioner continues to use old details, the submission will fail. Another reason is simply human error—a mistyped account number during the DLC generation process. Some pensioners may have also switched their pension account from one branch to another or even to a different bank entirely but forgotten to update this information with the pension sanctioning authority before attempting to submit their DLC. In all these cases, the information provided to Jeevan Pramaan conflicts with the official PDA records.
How to Proactively Check and Update Your Details
The most crucial step is to ensure your bank has your correct, up-to-date information before you attempt to generate a Jeevan Pramaan. You cannot update your core bank details via the Jeevan Pramaan portal itself. First, confirm with your bank branch that your Aadhaar number is correctly seeded with your pension account. Second, verify the exact account number and branch details they have on record for your pension. If you have changed banks or if your branch has merged, you must first complete the necessary paperwork with your Pension Sanctioning Authority and the new bank to have your pension formally transferred. Only once the bank's records are fully updated should you proceed with submitting your DLC.
What to Do If Your DLC is Rejected
If you receive an SMS informing you that your Jeevan Pramaan has been rejected due to incorrect bank details, do not panic. The first step is to contact your pension disbursing bank branch directly. They can confirm the exact reason for the rejection. Once you have identified the discrepancy, get your details corrected at the bank level. After the bank confirms that their records are updated, you must generate a fresh Digital Life Certificate with the new, correct information. This new submission will override the previous rejected one and, if the details now match, will be accepted by the bank.
