The Two Stages of Verification
Submitting a Digital Life Certificate, or Jeevan Pramaan, is a two-part process. The first step is the biometric scan (fingerprint, iris, or face authentication). A 'successful' scan simply confirms your identity by matching your biometrics with your Aadhaar
data. It proves that you, the pensioner, are alive. However, this is just an authentication. The second, more crucial step, is the acceptance of this certificate by your Pension Disbursing Agency (PDA), which could be your bank, post office, or treasury. The PDA verifies that all the pension-related details submitted along with the biometric proof are accurate and match their records. Rejection happens at this second stage.
Common Reasons for Rejection
Even after a perfect biometric scan, your Life Certificate can be rejected for several reasons, most of which are due to data mismatches. The most common error is an incorrect Pension Payment Order (PPO) number. Other frequent issues include discrepancies in your name or date of birth between your Aadhaar card and the PDA's records, or an incorrect bank account number. Sometimes, the issue is technical, like a poor-quality biometric capture, especially with faint fingerprints in older individuals. In some cases, selecting the wrong PDA during submission can also lead to rejection. It's also important to note that remarried or re-employed pensioners are generally not eligible for the digital certificate and must submit a physical one.
How to Check Your Certificate's Final Status
Do not wait for your pension to stop to discover a problem. You must proactively check the final status of your submission. You can do this by visiting the official Jeevan Pramaan portal (jeevanpramaan.gov.in). You will need the Pramaan ID that was generated at the time of your biometric submission. Using this ID, you can log in and download a PDF copy of your certificate. The status — whether it is 'pending', 'accepted', or 'rejected' by the PDA — will be clearly mentioned on the document itself. This is the most reliable way to confirm that the process is truly complete.
What to Do If It's Rejected
Receiving a rejection alert can be worrying, but the solution is usually straightforward. The first step is to contact your PDA—your bank or post office—to understand the exact reason for the rejection. They can pinpoint the specific error in their system. Once you know the issue, you must generate a completely new Jeevan Pramaan by submitting the certificate again. This time, pay extremely close attention to every detail you enter, ensuring your name, PPO number, and account details are entered exactly as they appear in the bank's records. If biometrics were the problem, consider using an iris scan if fingerprinting failed, as it can be more reliable for seniors.
Tips for a Smooth Submission
To avoid rejection, preparation is key. Before you begin the submission process, gather all necessary documents: your Aadhaar card, PPO, and bank passbook. When filling out the form, double-check every entry for spelling and numerical accuracy. Submitting your certificate well before the annual deadline (typically November 30) gives you ample time to correct any errors if a rejection occurs. Finally, always complete the final step: after a few days, log in to the Jeevan Pramaan portal to download the certificate and confirm its acceptance by your PDA.
