The Journey After You Hit 'Submit'
Once you generate your Digital Life Certificate (DLC), it doesn't instantly guarantee your pension. The certificate, which has a unique Pramaan-ID, is stored in a central repository. Your Pension Disbursing Agency (PDA)—which is typically your bank or post
office—must then access, verify, and formally accept this certificate. The responsibility for this final step lies with the PDA, but it is essential for you to monitor the process to prevent any potential disruption in your monthly payments. Any mismatch in the data can lead to a rejection, which you might only discover when your pension is delayed.
Verification Point 1: Data Mismatch
The most common reason for a Life Certificate rejection is a mismatch between the information you provided and the records held by your PDA. This includes your name, date of birth, and pension account number. Even a minor spelling mistake or an incorrect digit can cause the automated system to flag your certificate. Before submitting, it is vital to double-check that the details you enter are exactly the same as those in your bank and Pension Payment Order (PPO) records. If your Aadhaar details do not match your pension records, it can also lead to failure.
Verification Point 2: The PPO Number
The Pension Payment Order (PPO) number is a unique 12-digit number that is essential for every pensioner. Entering this number incorrectly is a frequent and critical error. Without the correct PPO, the system cannot link your Life Certificate to your pension account. Similarly, ensure you have selected the correct pension sanctioning and disbursing authorities from the dropdown menus in the Jeevan Pramaan portal. An error here means your certificate is sent to the wrong department and will not be processed by your actual PDA.
Verification Point 3: Biometric Authentication
The Jeevan Pramaan system relies on Aadhaar-based biometric authentication, using either a fingerprint, iris scan, or face scan to verify your identity. A poor-quality scan can result in a failed authentication. For older pensioners, faint fingerprints can sometimes be an issue. Face authentication, which can be done via a smartphone, is often a more reliable alternative. Ensure you are in a well-lit area and follow the on-screen instructions carefully during the face scan to avoid a capture failure. Sometimes, connectivity issues can also cause the authentication to fail during submission.
How to Track Your Certificate's Status
Do not wait for your pension to be stopped to check the status. After submitting your certificate, you will receive an SMS with your Pramaan-ID. You can use this ID to check the status on the Jeevan Pramaan portal (jeevanpramaan.gov.in). Simply visit the website, use the option to download the certificate, and enter your Pramaan-ID. The downloaded PDF will display a message at the bottom indicating whether your certificate has been 'accepted' or 'rejected' by your PDA. If it is still pending, check back after a few days.
What to Do If Your Certificate Is Rejected
If you receive an SMS that your certificate has been rejected or see this status on the portal, do not panic. The first step is to identify the reason for the rejection. The rejection message on the portal may offer a clue. Common reasons include incorrect data or a biometric mismatch. The solution is to generate a fresh Digital Life Certificate with a new Pramaan-ID, ensuring all information is correct this time. It is advisable to contact your pension disbursing bank branch directly to confirm the exact error in their records before resubmitting.
