The Return of a Performance Icon
The Performante name has always signified the most hardcore, track-ready models in Lamborghini’s stable. After a brief hiatus, the badge returns to the Urus lineup, and this time it’s attached to the new plug-in hybrid SE model. The result is the most powerful
Urus ever created. Combining its proven 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor, the Urus SE Performante produces a staggering 801 horsepower (812 CV) and 1000 Nm of torque. These figures not only eclipse the standard Urus SE but also represent a massive 144-horsepower jump over the previous non-hybrid Urus Performante. This power allows the super-SUV to launch from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds on its way to a top speed of 312 km/h.
A Masterclass in Aerodynamics
The headline feature of this new model is its relentless focus on aerodynamics. In the world of high-performance cars, downforce is the invisible hand that pushes the vehicle onto the road, increasing grip and stability at high speeds. Lamborghini engineers have worked wonders here, increasing the total downforce of the Urus SE Performante by a massive 23% compared to the standard Urus SE. This was achieved through a suite of aggressive new components. A prominent new front splitter and a vented carbon fibre hood with an 'S-duct' channel air over the car to press the front end down. At the back, a combination of a roof-mounted wing and a lower lip spoiler work with the largest rear diffuser ever fitted to an Urus to keep the rear axle planted firmly on the tarmac. In a remarkable feat of engineering, Lamborghini managed to achieve this significant increase in downforce while also reducing aerodynamic drag by 3% compared to the standard SE, aiding efficiency.
Lighter, Smarter, and Sharper
While adding a hybrid system with batteries and an electric motor inevitably adds weight, Lamborghini has been obsessive about shedding kilos elsewhere. The Urus SE Performante is 32 kg lighter than its standard SE sibling. This was accomplished through the extensive use of lightweight materials. The hood, roof, wheel arches, and rear diffuser are all made from carbon fibre. A new, free-flowing Akrapovic titanium exhaust system not only provides a more powerful sound but also saves 10 kg on its own. But the upgrades go far beyond weight and power. The vehicle introduces a new AURA dual-chamber air suspension system, which promises to reduce body roll by 55% during spirited driving and cut vibrations by 25% for improved comfort. It also inherits the advanced '6D' chassis computer from Lamborghini's supercars, which constantly measures the car’s movements to provide unparalleled control and responsiveness.
What This Means on the Road
These numbers and technical terms translate into a more thrilling and confidence-inspiring driving experience. The immense downforce means the car feels more stable and predictable when cornering at high speed, allowing the driver to push its limits. The new suspension system ensures that despite its size and weight, the Urus SE Performante remains incredibly flat and agile, resisting the body roll that can plague lesser SUVs. The braking system has also been enhanced, offering a 10% increase in braking power. For those who dare to venture off the tarmac, Lamborghini has also added a new 'Rally' driving mode, specifically calibrated to deliver maximum excitement on loose surfaces. It joins the existing Strada, Sport, and Corsa modes, giving the driver a full spectrum of performance personalities to choose from, from a comfortable cruiser to a track-devouring monster.
