Why Tracking Your PAN Correction Is Important
Your Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a crucial 10-digit alphanumeric identifier required for a vast range of financial transactions in India. From filing income tax returns and opening bank accounts to making large investments, an accurate PAN card
is indispensable. An error in your name, date of birth, or address can lead to significant hurdles and verification failures. When you submit a 'Request for New PAN Card Or/ And Changes Or Correction in PAN Data' form, tracking its status ensures you are aware of its journey. It helps you know if the application has been received, is under process, has been approved, or if there is an issue that requires your attention. This proactive monitoring saves time and prevents potential complications arising from incorrect details.
The Key to Tracking: Your Acknowledgement Number
Upon successful submission of your PAN correction application, whether online or offline, you are provided with a crucial piece of information: an acknowledgement number. This unique number serves as your reference ID for the application. It's important to know that the two main entities that process PAN applications, Protean eGov Technologies (formerly NSDL e-Governance) and UTI Infrastructure Technology and Services Limited (UTIITSL), issue slightly different identifiers. If you applied through the Protean (NSDL) portal, you will receive a 15-digit acknowledgement number. If you used the UTIITSL portal, you will be given a 9-digit application coupon number. This number is typically displayed on the final submission receipt and is also sent to your registered email address. You must keep this number safe, as it is the primary tool for tracking your application status.
How to Track on the NSDL (Protean) Portal
If you submitted your correction request through Protean (NSDL), tracking your status is straightforward. You can typically check the status about three days after your application. First, navigate to the official TIN-NSDL 'Status Track' webpage. On this page, you will see a dropdown menu for 'Application Type'; select 'PAN - New/Change Request'. The next step is to enter your unique 15-digit acknowledgement number accurately in the provided field. Finally, you will need to enter a captcha code for verification and click the 'Submit' button. The subsequent screen will display the current status of your PAN correction request, letting you know exactly where it stands in the process.
How to Track on the UTIITSL Portal
For those who applied through UTIITSL, the process is just as simple. Begin by visiting the official UTIITSL 'Track Your PAN Card' portal. Here, you will be prompted to enter your application coupon number, which is the 9rdigit code you received upon submission. Alternatively, you may also have the option to enter your PAN itself. You will then need to provide your date of birth. After entering these details and the captcha code for security, click 'Submit'. The system will then fetch and display the real_time status of your application.
Understanding Your Application Status
Once you track your application, the status message will give you a clear indication of its progress. A status of 'under process' means your application is currently being reviewed by the authorities. If it shows 'dispatched', it means your new or corrected PAN card has been sent to your registered address via post, and a consignment number might also be provided for further tracking with India Post. In some cases, you might see a status indicating a discrepancy or a request for more information. This is a crucial update, as it means you need to take action, such as submitting additional documents, to ensure your application is not rejected. If an application is rejected, the reason will usually be provided, allowing you to rectify the issue and re_apply.
