The Original Sin: A Quick Recap
The story began with a simple, chilling premise: a man’s daughter, Anju, accidentally kills Varun, the son of a high-ranking police officer, who was trying to blackmail her with a secretly recorded video. To protect his family, Georgekutty, a humble cable
operator and film fanatic, devises an elaborate cover-up. Using his encyclopedic knowledge of movie plots, he creates a seemingly unbreakable alibi, drilling his family to repeat a story about a weekend trip. The first film ends with the ultimate twist: Georgekutty has hidden Varun’s body under the floor of a new police station, a place no one would ever think to look.
Drishyam 2: The Lie That Lived
Six years later, Georgekutty is a successful movie theatre owner, but his family is still haunted. The case is reopened when an eyewitness, who saw Georgekutty at the construction site years ago, comes forward. The police excavate the station and find skeletal remains, seemingly trapping Georgekutty at last. But this is where his genius for foresight is revealed. He had anticipated this very outcome years in advance. In a stunning masterstroke, it's revealed that Georgekutty had published the plot as a crime novel to discredit any confession and, more importantly, had swapped Varun's real bones with another skeleton long ago, rendering the DNA evidence useless. He then anonymously sent some of Varun's actual remains to his grieving parents for their final rites.
The Unseen Scars: The Family's Trauma
While Georgekutty’s plans have worked, they have come at a great psychological cost. A key detail often overlooked is the deep trauma within the family. Anju suffers from PTSD and recurring seizures, triggered by the police investigation. His wife, Rani, lives in a state of constant fear, and her anxiety leads her to nearly confess to an undercover officer posing as a friendly neighbor. This emotional fragility is the family's greatest weakness. Director Jeethu Joseph has emphasized that the third film will focus more on Georgekutty's emotional state and his fear of an unknown pursuer, moving away from a pure cat-and-mouse game.
The Loose Ends and Lingering Threats
Despite his brilliant moves, Georgekutty isn't completely in the clear. The end of Drishyam 2 leaves several threats dangling. The police, particularly former IG Geetha Prabhakar, are defeated but not convinced of his innocence. They know he did it; they just can’t prove it. More importantly, Varun's father, Prabhakar, is a broken man who may be driven to seek revenge outside the law. Recent reports on the Malayalam Drishyam 3, which was released in May 2026, confirm this, showing Prabhakar hiring the disgraced constable Sahadevan to terrorize Georgekutty's family. While the Hindi version, Drishyam: The Conclusion, will have a different plot, this theme of vengeance is a powerful thread.
What to Expect in 'The Conclusion'
The Hindi franchise is set for its finale on October 2, 2026, with Drishyam: The Conclusion. Unlike the Malayalam series, which has confirmed a fourth installment, this is being billed as the final chapter for Vijay Salgaonkar. The creators have confirmed it will feature an original story, not a remake of the Malayalam Part 3. This gives the filmmakers a chance to craft a unique ending for Vijay. Will he finally be caught? Will he have to make one last, desperate move to save his family? Or will he find a way to secure their freedom permanently, even if it costs him his own? The core of the story remains a man who will do anything for his family, a theme reinforced by the film's marketing. The question is what the final price for that protection will be.
