A Masterpiece of Power and Grace
Bugatti has once again pushed the boundaries of automotive luxury with a unique creation from its Sur Mesure customization division. The car, named the W16 Mistral 'Blanc Éternel,' is a singular masterpiece designed as the ultimate send-off for Bugatti's
legendary 8.0-litre quad-turbo W16 engine. While the Mistral is already an exclusive open-top hypercar, this version elevates itself by incorporating actual porcelain, a feat of engineering and artistry. The exterior features a striking white paint finish covered in hand-painted black geometric lines. This intricate design is not random; it mimics the digital wireframe models used by designers, making the car appear as if its very blueprint has been made visible on its skin.
A Royal Collaboration
The delicate porcelain elements are the result of a partnership with Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin, or KPM. Founded in 1763 by King Frederick the Great of Prussia, KPM is a legendary institution renowned for its exquisite 'white gold'. This collaboration isn't entirely new. In 2011, the two brands first joined forces to create the Veyron 'L'Or Blanc', the world's first car to feature porcelain details inside and out. The Mistral 'Blanc Éternel' is the stunning successor to this legacy, reviving a partnership that fuses 18th-century royal craftsmanship with 21st-century hypercar technology. The KPM signature, a cobalt blue sceptre, even appears on inlays on the engine cover, marking the authenticity of this royal collaboration.
Intricate Artistry in Every Detail
The use of porcelain on a 1,578-horsepower vehicle is a technical marvel. The material shrinks by about 17% during the firing process, requiring immense precision from KPM's artisans to ensure every component fits flawlessly. On the exterior, real porcelain adorns the Bugatti 'EB' emblem, the fuel and oil caps, and even a tiny, detailed elephant mascot, a nod to a famous sculpture by Ettore Bugatti's brother, Rembrandt. The name 'Blanc Éternel' is elegantly scripted on the underside of the rear wing. Inside, the driver and passenger interact directly with this luxurious material. The speaker grilles, window switches, gear shifter, and trim pieces on the center console are all fashioned from precious porcelain, set against white leather with matching black pinstripes.
The Final Bow of the W16
Beyond its artistic merit, the Mistral 'Blanc Éternel' holds a special place in automotive history. It represents one of the final roadgoing applications of Bugatti's iconic W16 engine before the brand transitions to a new V16 hybrid powertrain. This makes the car not just a bespoke commission but a significant chapter in the Bugatti story. The vehicle retains its monstrous performance, capable of reaching speeds of around 439 km/h, making it a blend of ferocious power and delicate beauty. The project was overseen by Bugatti's Sur Mesure (meaning 'tailored' in French) program, which allows clients to create highly personalized vehicles, ensuring this one-of-one creation is truly unique to its owner.
