An Ambitious International Shoot
Confirming the grand scale suggested by its production, 'Awarapan 2' was shot extensively across diverse and visually stunning locations. The nine-month-long principal photography schedule, which began in September 2025 and wrapped in June 2026, spanned multiple countries. In India, the crew filmed key sequences in the historic cities of Jaipur and Sambhar in Rajasthan. From there, production moved to Southeast Asia, with major portions of the film, including dramatic chase scenes, being shot in Bangkok, Thailand. The vibrant streets and markets of the Thai capital provide a gritty backdrop for the international crime syndicate at the heart of the story. The shoot also included filming in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, giving the sequel the expansive, globetrotting canvas that the filmmakers envisioned.
Shivam Pandit's New Mission
The sequel reveals that Shivam Pandit survived the near-fatal events of the first film and embarks on a new, high-stakes mission. The plot pulls him back into the criminal underworld to dismantle a child trafficking racket that operates across the very locations the film was shot in. This narrative justifies the international setting, as Shivam's quest for revenge and redemption takes him on a sprawling journey across borders. The cast is bolstered by new additions, with Disha Patani starring opposite Hashmi and veteran actor Shabana Azmi portraying the antagonist, Nafisa. Nitin Kakkar takes over directorial duties from the original's Mohit Suri, a decision producer Vishesh Bhatt explained was an organic evolution, allowing for a fresh perspective while Suri was engaged with other projects.
From Risky Bet to Box Office Triumph
The journey to bringing 'Awarapan 2' to the screen was not without its challenges. Given that the 2007 film was not a commercial success, producer Vishesh Bhatt revealed that distributors were initially hesitant to back the sequel. The makers had to self-fund the project, taking a significant risk based on their belief in the story and its dedicated fanbase. The gamble paid off spectacularly. Released on August 14, 2026, the film received a tremendous response. It has become a major commercial success, crossing the ₹100 crore mark at the domestic box office within days and earning over ₹192 crore worldwide in its first ten days, making it one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of the year. This success is a powerful testament to the original film's enduring legacy.
