A New Breed of Super SUV
When Lamborghini launched the original Urus, it created a new category: the Super SUV. Now, with the Urus SE, it's pushing the concept into the electrified era. This isn't a tentative step into hybrid technology; it's a confident leap. The 'SE' marks
this as the first plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the wildly popular SUV, but the mission is different here. Instead of focusing solely on emissions or fuel economy, Lamborghini has weaponized hybrid tech to deliver staggering new levels of performance, creating the most powerful Urus to date. It's a statement piece that proves electrification and extreme performance can go hand-in-hand, wrapping it all in a package that looks even more aggressive and aerodynamically refined than its predecessors.
The Dual Heart of the Beast
At the core of the Urus SE is a 'dual-heart' powertrain. It pairs a re-engineered 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, which produces 620 CV on its own, with a 192 CV permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor. The electric motor is cleverly integrated into the 8-speed automatic transmission. Together, they unleash a colossal combined output of 800 CV (which translates to about 789 horsepower) and a massive 950 Nm of torque. The key here is synergy; the electric motor provides instant torque from a standstill, filling any potential gaps in the V8's power delivery and ensuring a relentless wave of acceleration at any speed. This combination is a strategic move, showcasing how Lamborghini is using hybridisation to enhance, not compromise, its signature performance character.
Electrifying Performance Numbers
The raw power figures translate into breathtaking speed. The Lamborghini Urus SE can launch from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds, making it quicker than the Urus S. It will continue hurtling forward to 200 km/h in a mere 11.4 seconds, eventually reaching a top speed of 312 km/h (194 mph), making it the fastest production SUV in its class. But the hybrid system offers more than just brutal acceleration. The 25.9-kWh battery pack allows for more than 60 km of pure electric driving, perfect for silent cruising through city streets at speeds up to 130 km/h. New technical solutions, like an electric torque vectoring system, continuously distribute power between the front and rear axles, ensuring maximum traction and agility whether you're on a racetrack or navigating a tight parking lot.
More Than Just an Engine Swap
The Urus SE isn't just the old model with a battery pack. Lamborghini undertook a significant redesign to improve aerodynamics, cooling, and visual aggression. It features a new hood, redesigned bumpers, matrix LED headlights, and a new rear spoiler that work together to increase downforce and improve brake cooling. Inside, the driver-focused cockpit gets an upgrade with larger screens for the infotainment and instrument cluster, enhancing the Human-Machine Interface (HMI). A new centrally-located 'Tamburo' selector allows the driver to choose between various drive modes, including EV Drive, Hybrid, and Performance settings, alongside the standard Strada, Sport, and Corsa modes. These updates ensure the technology and design of the Urus SE feel as futuristic as its powertrain.
Redefining the Super SUV Showdown
The arrival of the 800-horsepower Urus SE redraws the battle lines in the ultra-high-performance SUV segment. While it faces formidable rivals like the Aston Martin DBX 707 and the V12-powered Ferrari Purosangue, the Urus SE's plug-in hybrid powertrain gives it a unique position. It challenges competitors not just on raw power but on technological innovation. It offers the visceral thrill of a twin-turbo V8, the instant punch of an electric motor, and the ability to operate as a silent EV. By successfully integrating these different personalities into one vehicle, Lamborghini has not only created its most powerful and versatile SUV ever but has also set a new, very high benchmark for what a super SUV can be in the modern age.
