The Ultimate Super SUV Gets Sharper
Just when you thought the Lamborghini Urus couldn't get more extreme, the Italian marque has unveiled the Urus SE Performante. This new model takes the recently launched plug-in hybrid Urus SE and dials everything up to eleven. Following the Performante tradition,
which in Italian means 'high-performance', this variant is lighter, more powerful, and aerodynamically superior to its siblings. At its heart is a plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 with an electric motor to produce a staggering 801 horsepower. This power, combined with significant weight reduction through extensive use of carbon fibre, allows the SE Performante to charge from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds. But the biggest story isn't just the raw power; it's how the vehicle controls it.
Decoding the Dual-Chamber Suspension
The headline feature of the Urus SE Performante is its new AURA dual-chamber air suspension system. Unlike a traditional single-chamber air spring, which offers a fixed volume of air and limited ability to adjust stiffness, a dual-chamber system adds a second, switchable air pocket. When a softer ride is needed, a valve opens to connect both chambers, increasing the total air volume and allowing the suspension to better absorb bumps. For sporty driving, the valve closes, using only the main, higher-pressure chamber to deliver a much firmer, more responsive ride. Lamborghini claims this new setup reduces body roll by a massive 55 percent compared to the previous Performante, while also decreasing vibrations transmitted into the cabin by 25 percent, offering a wider range between ultimate comfort and track-ready precision.
Comfort and Corsa in One Package
The practical benefit of this technology is a super SUV with a true dual personality. In Strada (street) mode, Lamborghini states the Urus SE Performante is even more comfortable than the standard Urus SE, as the dual chambers work to smooth out road imperfections. This addresses a common trade-off where high-performance vehicles often sacrifice everyday usability for track capability. However, when switched to Sport or the track-focused Corsa mode, the suspension firms up dramatically, keeping the 2,473 kg vehicle incredibly flat and stable through corners. This adaptability means drivers no longer have to choose between a punishingly stiff ride and compromised handling. The system intelligently provides the ideal setup for any situation, from a city commute to a flying lap on a circuit.
More Than Just Suspension
The dual-chamber air suspension is part of a holistic performance upgrade. The SE Performante features a host of aerodynamic enhancements, including a new front splitter, rear diffuser, and a dual-spoiler setup that increases downforce by 16 percent over the previous Performante model. It also gets a new 'Rally' driving mode, calibrated specifically for maximum enjoyment on loose surfaces. Further enhancements include a 16mm wider track for greater stability, an Akrapovic titanium exhaust system that saves weight and enhances the V8's sound, and a new 6D sensor that provides precise data on the vehicle's movements to optimize stability and control systems. These elements work in concert, with the suspension acting as the critical link that translates the vehicle's power and aerodynamic grip into a cohesive and thrilling driving experience.
