The airport is in the process of installing a new generation of advanced security scanners across its terminals. Introducing: The CT Scanner
The technology powering this change is Computed Tomography (CT), the same principle used in medical scanning. These new CT baggage scanners, like the Smiths Detection HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX being deployed at DXB, replace traditional 2D X-ray machines. Instead of a flat, cluttered image, they generate high-resolution 3D images of a bag's contents. This allows security personnel to digitally rotate and inspect the items on their screen from every angle, as if they were holding them in their hands. This detailed, three-dimensional view is the key to accurately identifying objects without needing them to be physically removed from the bag.

A Gradual Rollout Across DXB

The new CT scanners are being installed in phases across all three terminals of DXB as part of an ongoing programme to replace older equipment. This means that for the time being, the experience may differ depending on which terminal and which specific security lane you are directed to. Some machines are already in operation, and passengers may notice refurbishment work and new flooring alongside the technology deployment in areas like Terminal 1. While the future involves leaving everything in your bag, if you are at a lane with older technology or are instructed to remove your electronics, you must still do so.
