A Radical New Look
The most immediately obvious change is the motorcycle's completely new design. Recent spy shots from mid-July 2026 show a prototype with a much slimmer and more aggressive profile. KTM appears to be moving away from the polarizing front-end of the current
790 and 890 Adventure models. The new bike features a single, compact projector LED headlamp, giving it a cleaner and more modern face that echoes KTM's latest design language seen on other models. The bodywork is also significantly revised, with sharper lines and a redesigned fuel tank. Interestingly, some reports suggest a departure from the iconic low-slung 'saddlebag' fuel tanks in favor of a more conventional design, though this is still being debated among observers.
The Heart of the Matter: Engine and Chassis
While early speculation pointed towards a new 990cc platform, recent reports from July 2026 strongly suggest the test mule is an evolution of the 790 Adventure. It is expected to retain the proven 799cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, similar to the one found in the latest 790 Duke. This unit is known for producing around 95 PS and 87 Nm of torque, which is ample power for a middleweight adventurer. While the engine might be familiar, the components around it are seeing major upgrades. The test mule features WP Apex suspension at both ends and new WP-branded brake calipers, indicating a focus on enhancing the bike's handling and stopping power. Some observers note that the main frame and swingarm appear similar to the current platform, suggesting KTM is refining a proven chassis rather than starting from scratch for this model.
What Do These Upgrades Mean for Riders?
These hardware updates translate into tangible benefits for the rider. The move to a slimmer profile and potentially a single-piece seat, as seen on the test bike, suggests an improvement in ergonomics for both on-road comfort and off-road maneuverability. The updated WP suspension and brakes will likely provide a more controlled and confident ride across varied terrains. A new, taller windscreen seen on the prototype should also improve long-distance touring comfort by reducing wind blast. The electronics suite is expected to be comprehensive, featuring a 5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, multiple ride modes, cornering ABS, and lean-sensitive traction control—all aimed at making the bike both safer and more versatile.
The Indian Adventure Scene Heats Up
While the current KTM 790 Adventure isn't sold in India, the prospect of this next-generation model arriving is tantalizing for Indian enthusiasts. The adventure segment in India is booming, with riders increasingly looking for capable, middleweight, multi-cylinder motorcycles. This new KTM would enter a competitive landscape, facing off against established rivals. However, the biggest challenge might come from within the country. Royal Enfield is reportedly working on multiple new adventure bikes, including a potential Himalayan 750, and Hero is also developing larger ADVs. Furthermore, Bajaj, KTM's partner in India, is also testing its own adventure motorcycle, which could launch by early 2027. This intense competition means that if and when KTM decides to launch this new model in India, it will need to have a compelling price and feature set to succeed.
