The news comes as tourism from India to Uzbekistan shows strong growth, with visitor numbers increasing significantly in recent years. However, the visa-free access comes with important conditions that travellers must know before planning their trip.
The Fine Print: Who Qualifies for Visa-Free Entry?
The 30-day visa-free entry, which officially took effect on September 1, 2026, is a conditional arrangement. It is not open to all Indian passport holders. To be eligible, an Indian citizen must hold a valid, multiple-entry visa for one of a specific list of developed countries. These countries include the United States, the United Kingdom, Schengen Area countries, Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, and the Republic of Korea. In addition to holding one of these specific visas, the traveller must also possess an air ticket for a return flight to India or an onward flight to a third country. Only travellers who meet both of these conditions can enter Uzbekistan without a visa for a stay of up to 30 days.

For the vast majority of Indian travellers who do not hold a valid multiple-entry visa for one of the specified countries, the standard visa process remains necessary. Fortunately, this process is streamlined and user-friendly through Uzbekistan's electronic visa (e-visa) system. Indian citizens can apply online via the official portal, e-visa.gov.uz. The process involves filling out an application, uploading a digital photo and a scan of your passport, and paying the fee online. A standard single-entry tourist e-visa typically costs around $20 USD and allows for a stay of up to 30 days. It's recommended to apply at least three to five working days before your intended travel date to ensure timely processing.
