A New Bespoke Design Theme
Bentley's bespoke division, Mulliner, has introduced a series of 'Design Themes' exclusively for the new, driver-focused Continental GT Supersports model. Among the three curated specifications is 'Brodgar', a sophisticated palette designed to convey
contemporary style. This theme isn't just an interior option; it's a complete exterior and interior concept. The exterior features a unique side-to-side paint fade, transitioning from a lighter 'Pale Brodgar' to a deeper 'Brodgar' hue. This innovative paint application is designed to emphasise the driver-focused nature of the two-seat Supersports. Inside, the Brodgar theme pairs a luxurious Camel and Beluga leather interior, creating a warm, contemporary, and cohesive aesthetic. The other two themes launched alongside it are the fiery 'Dragon' and the vibrant 'Electric'.
A Canvas for Performance
The choice of the Supersports as the exclusive recipient for these Mulliner themes is deliberate. The model is the most driver-focused variant of the Continental GT, swapping grand touring comfort for track-inspired performance and a dedicated two-seat layout. The Mulliner design themes accentuate this character. For instance, the unique paint fade, a first for Bentley, always places the brighter highlight colour on the driver's side of the vehicle, regardless of whether it is a left- or right-hand drive configuration. This visual cue subtly reinforces the car's mission. The recent debut of the themes at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed underscores their importance and positions the Supersports at the pinnacle of Bentley's performance offerings.
Echoes of Ancient History
While the Brodgar theme is a masterful exercise in colour and trim, its name evokes something far older and more mysterious. The name is almost certainly a reference to the Ring of Brodgar, a Neolithic henge and stone circle on the Scottish archipelago of Orkney. This ancient monument, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a symbol of permanence, mystery, and ancient craftsmanship. By linking a modern design theme to such a significant historical landmark, Bentley imbues the car with a sense of timelessness and deep-rooted British heritage. It's a storytelling choice that elevates the option beyond mere colour selection, suggesting that owning the car is akin to owning a piece of history.
When Stone Becomes Reality
The name 'Brodgar' might lead one to assume the cabin is finished with actual stone. While that is not the case for this specific colour theme, Bentley's Mulliner division has indeed mastered the art of using stone in its interiors. As a separate and equally stunning bespoke option, Bentley offers genuine stone veneers for its cabins. This remarkable feature uses slate and quartzite, often sourced from quarries in India, which is then transformed into a veneer that is just 0.1mm thick. This state-of-the-art process makes the stone incredibly lightweight and allows the natural grain and texture to be seen and felt. Available in colours like Terra Red, Copper, Galaxy, and Autumn White, this option demonstrates Bentley's commitment to pushing the boundaries of natural and luxurious materials.
The Mulliner Art of the Possible
Both the Brodgar design theme and the availability of stone veneers are products of Mulliner, Bentley's in-house bespoke commissioning division. Mulliner exists to make the seemingly impossible, possible, catering to a clientele that desires ultimate personalisation. From unique paint combinations and driver-centric interior layouts to the complex engineering required to integrate 200-million-year-old stone into a dashboard, Mulliner's work is central to Bentley's brand identity. These offerings go far beyond a standard options list, representing a collaborative process between the customer and Bentley's craftspeople to create a truly one-of-a-kind vehicle. It solidifies the idea that a modern Bentley can be a personal commission, much like the coachbuilt masterpieces of the early 20th century.
