A Nod to Heritage
Land Rover has a history of launching 'Landmark' editions for its vehicles, often to celebrate milestones or as a run-out special before a new generation arrives. For 2026, the brand has introduced a new Discovery Landmark Edition, which slots in as a mid-tier
variant between the entry-level S and the top-end Tempest models. This edition is more than just a sticker job; it's a curated package of cosmetic and functional upgrades designed to enhance the Discovery’s appeal. It arrives with an exclusive Tasman Blue paint option, a colour that pays homage to the Clearwater Blue of the original 1989 Discovery, immediately signalling its connection to the brand's storied past.
What Makes It Special?
The Landmark Edition’s exclusivity lies in its details. Externally, it features a Graphite Atlas finish on the grille, fender vents, and Discovery lettering, with Carpathian Grey skid plates adding a rugged contrast. It rides on newly designed 21-inch wheels finished in Dark Agate Grey, which are unique to this variant. Inside, the special treatment continues with brushed aluminium accents and Landmark branding on the tread plates and centre console. A unique mountain logo also appears on the B-pillar and puddle lamp projectors, reinforcing its adventurous spirit. For added comfort and practicality, a sliding panoramic sunroof and a centre console refrigerator are included as standard, features that are often optional extras.
Positioning in a Crowded Market
The Indian SUV market is booming, now accounting for over half of all passenger vehicle sales. While much of this growth is in the compact segment, the premium space is equally contested, with established German rivals like the Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5, and Audi Q7 holding significant ground. The Discovery Landmark Edition is Land Rover’s attempt to carve out a niche within this segment. It targets a buyer who is perhaps tired of the usual suspects and desires a vehicle that blends supreme off-road capability with seven-seat family practicality and a touch of British luxury. By bundling popular features and adding unique styling cues, Land Rover is creating a distinct value proposition that goes beyond a simple spec-sheet comparison.
The Engine and Capability
Underpinning the Landmark Edition in India is the Discovery's proven 3.0-litre diesel engine, delivering a robust 350hp and 700Nm of torque. This power is channelled to all four wheels through a smooth 8-speed automatic transmission. True to its lineage, the vehicle is equipped with Land Rover’s Terrain Response 2 system, allowing the driver to optimise performance across a variety of surfaces, from city streets to challenging off-road trails. With a remarkable water-wading capacity of 900mm and a towing capacity of 3,500kg, its fundamental capabilities remain a core part of its appeal. It’s a luxury SUV that doesn’t shy away from hard work.
Is It the Right Choice?
For the premium SUV buyer, the choice often comes down to brand identity and personal priorities. The Discovery has always been a unique proposition: more family-friendly and versatile than a hardcore Defender, yet more rugged than its luxurious Range Rover siblings. The Landmark Edition sharpens this identity. It offers a curated package that feels special without forcing buyers to navigate a complex and expensive options list. For those who value the Discovery’s go-anywhere, do-anything spirit but also desire a degree of exclusivity and style, this edition presents a compelling and well-judged argument. It may not be the sportiest or most tech-heavy option in its class, but it is arguably one of the most characterful and versatile.
