A Consistent Climb to the Top
IIM Bangalore's two-year Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) has been ranked as the best in India for the third consecutive year. This year's global rank of 21 marks a significant and steady ascent from 28th in 2025 and 41st in 2024. This achievement
makes IIMB the only Indian business school to break into the global top 25, highlighting its growing international prestige and the high quality of its flagship management programme. The rankings are a testament to the institute's commitment to delivering world-class business education that produces graduates making a significant impact on the global stage.
What Makes the FT Ranking Crucial?
The Financial Times MiM ranking is a highly respected global benchmark for pre-experience management degrees. Unlike reputation-based surveys, it uses a rigorous methodology based on 19 different criteria. A significant 56% of the ranking's weight comes directly from alumni surveys, focusing on tangible outcomes three years after graduation. Key factors include weighted salary, salary increase, career progress, and value for money. The remaining 44% is derived from school-provided data covering aspects like international course experience, faculty credentials, and diversity. This focus on real-world career success and return on investment is why prospective students and employers worldwide watch these rankings so closely.
Inside IIM Bangalore's Success
IIM Bangalore's improved standing was driven by strong performance in several key career-focused areas. The institute saw significant gains in its 'Careers Service' rank, which rose to 8th globally from 11th the previous year. This indicates a high level of satisfaction among alumni with the school's career support. Furthermore, its 'Alumni Network' rank jumped to 19th from 31st, reflecting the power and effectiveness of its global community. The 'Career Progress' rank also saw a notable improvement, underscoring the successful career trajectories of its graduates. In a statement, IIMB's Director-in-charge, U Dinesh Kumar, attributed the success to the institute's practice of benchmarking its curriculum and outcomes against the world's best to prepare students for complex business challenges.
A Strong Showing for India
Beyond IIM Bangalore's success, the 2026 rankings were a strong indicator of the rising quality of Indian management education on the world stage. A total of 14 Indian B-schools featured in the top 100, an increase from 11 in the previous year. Following IIM Bangalore, SPJIMR Mumbai made a surprising leap to become the second-highest-ranked Indian school at 26th, just ahead of IIM Ahmedabad at 27th. IIM Calcutta (39th) and XLRI Jamshedpur (33rd) also secured spots within the top 50. Other notable institutions on the list include IIMs in Kozhikode (54th), Indore (62nd), and Lucknow (72nd), reinforcing the broad strength of the IIM system and other top private schools in the country.
Global Context and What's Next
Globally, the top of the ranking was dominated by European institutions. The University of St. Gallen in Switzerland retained its number one position for the second consecutive year. It was followed by Portugal's Nova School of Business and Economics at number two and China's Shanghai Jiao Tong University: Antai at number three. The strong performance of 14 Indian schools, particularly in salary and career progression metrics, demonstrates that they are increasingly competitive with the world's elite programmes. This growing global recognition not only enhances the value of a degree from these institutions but also signals a bright future for management education in India, promising a new generation of leaders ready for the international stage.
