The Stars of the Show
Bentley arrived at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed with a stunning lineup of over 35 cars, making its presence emphatically known. The main attractions were not just new models but showcases of what is possible when craftsmanship meets client imagination.
Dominating the display were three special models featuring incredible 'Ombré' paint finishes by Mulliner, Bentley's bespoke division. These included a new Supersports with a side-to-side Dragon Red to Black Crystal fade, a Continental GTC S with a front-to-rear Tungsten-to-Onyx blend, and a Bentayga Speed with a vertical Chestnut-to-Onyx finish. Each of these paint jobs requires about 56 hours of meticulous hand-finishing, underscoring the level of detail involved. Alongside these, Bentley presented the new Continental GT S, Flying Spur S, and the Bentayga EWB Artenara, all making runs up the famous Goodwood Hillclimb.
The Mulliner Magic
The true headline from Bentley’s Goodwood appearance is the elevated focus on its Mulliner division. Mulliner is Bentley's in-house coachbuilder, responsible for turning a customer's wildest dreams into automotive reality. It represents the pinnacle of the brand, offering a level of personalization that goes far beyond selecting colours and leathers. The 'Design Theme by Mulliner' for the new Supersports, which is limited to just 500 units worldwide, is a prime example. It introduces Bentley's first-ever side-to-side paint fade, where a bright colour on the driver's side blends into a darker tone on the passenger side, a design choice that deliberately emphasizes the car's driver-focused nature. This theme continues inside, with the cabin materials reflecting the two-tone exterior. This isn't just about a flashy paint job; it's a demonstration of technical mastery and a commitment to creating truly unique vehicles.
A Nod to a Century of Speed
While the focus was on future-facing customisation, Bentley also celebrated its rich heritage. A key moment was the celebration of 100 years of the 'Supersports' name. To mark the occasion, the brand brought two generations of the legendary model to the festival. The new 2026 Supersports shared the spotlight with the original 1926 Super Sports, affectionately nicknamed "Smoky". Seeing the century-old icon, one of only 18 ever made, alongside its modern, hybrid-powered descendant on the famous Hillclimb was a powerful reminder of Bentley's enduring legacy of combining performance with luxury. It perfectly framed the Mulliner reveals, suggesting that while the technology and aesthetics evolve, the spirit of building extraordinary cars remains the same.
The Race for Ultimate Exclusivity
Bentley's major push into bespoke creations at Goodwood is part of a wider trend in the ultra-luxury market. As performance metrics become increasingly stratospheric across the board, the true differentiator for brands like Bentley, Rolls-Royce, and Ferrari is exclusivity. For the wealthiest clients, owning an expensive car is no longer enough; they desire a car that is an extension of their personal identity, a one-of-a-kind commission that no one else has. By showcasing what Mulliner can do—from complex, hand-finished paint fades to fully bespoke interiors and exterior styling—Bentley is catering directly to this demand. The massive, two-story hospitality suite and expanded guest list at Goodwood also signal the importance of this direct client engagement, where dreams and ideas can be discussed and brought to life.
