A Modern Nod to a Rich Heritage
The Land Rover Discovery has been a symbol of versatile, seven-seat luxury since its debut in 1989. Special editions have long been a part of its story, offering curated packages for discerning buyers. The new Landmark Edition continues this tradition,
positioning itself as a celebration of the Discovery's essence. It slots neatly into the lineup between the entry-level S and the top-tier Tempest models, offering a unique blend of features and design cues. A standout feature is the exclusive Tasman Blue metallic paint, a colour making its debut on the Discovery. This choice is a deliberate homage, inspired by the Clearwater Blue offered on the very first Discovery, connecting this modern SUV directly to its storied past.
The Tactile Appeal of Tech Velour
The headline feature, 'Tech Velour', signals a focus on interior refinement and modern luxury. This material adorns the door casings and dashboard, providing a soft, premium touchpoint within the cabin. While the name is new, velour itself is a plush, velvet-like fabric known for its luxurious feel and comfort. Historically used in premium vehicles, modern advancements have likely created a more durable and technologically advanced version, hence the 'Tech' prefix. This fabric choice aims to elevate the sensory experience, offering a tactile contrast to the dark grey brushed aluminium finishers that also feature unique Landmark branding. It's a move away from ubiquitous leather, providing a different kind of sophisticated and cosy ambiance that can also improve cabin acoustics by absorbing noise.
Exclusive Exterior and Interior Touches
Beyond the new trim, the Landmark Edition is distinguished by a host of carefully selected details. The exterior features Graphite Atlas accents on the grille and side vents, with Carpathian Grey skid plates front and rear. The vehicle rides on all-new 21-inch alloy wheels finished in a striking Dark Agate Grey. The branding is also unique, with a special wordmark and mountain logo appearing on the front tread plates, B-pillar inserts, and even projected by the puddle lamps. Inside, the experience is enhanced by a standard sliding panoramic sunroof and a practical centre console refrigerator, making it perfectly equipped for family adventures. These features, combined with the new materials, create a cohesive and exclusive package.
Under the Hood and On the Road
In many markets, the Landmark Edition will be powered by Land Rover's powerful and efficient six-cylinder Ingenium powertrains. For the MY27 lineup, the P360 petrol variant, a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 355 horsepower, becomes a key part of the range. This engine ensures the Discovery maintains its reputation for effortless performance, whether on the motorway or navigating challenging terrain. The Discovery's legendary off-road capability remains a core attribute, with systems like Terrain Response 2 and an impressive wading depth of 900mm. It also retains its formidable towing capacity of up to 3,500 kg, assisted by the Advanced Tow Assist feature for easier manoeuvring. Standard features like air suspension and a host of driver aids including Adaptive Cruise Control and Blind Spot Assist round out its dynamic capabilities.
Market Position and Availability in India
The Landmark Edition is positioned to capture buyers who want more than the standard model but don't require the ultimate luxury of the top-end Tempest. While global pricing has been announced, specifics for the Indian market are eagerly awaited. Currently, the Land Rover Discovery range in India starts around ₹ 1.25 Crore and goes up to ₹ 1.39 Crore for the Tempest Edition (ex-showroom). Given this structure, the Landmark Edition would likely be priced between these two points. Jaguar Land Rover India has a history of bringing special editions to the market, such as the Discovery Sport Landmark Edition previously launched at ₹ 53.77 Lakh. This suggests a strong possibility that the new Discovery Landmark will also make its way to showrooms across the country, appealing to those seeking an exclusive and feature-rich luxury SUV.
