Abu Dhabi's New Offer for Indian Tourists
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched a pilot program aimed squarely at the Indian market, one of its most important sources of international visitors. Running from August 1 to October 31, 2026, this initiative
covers the cost of a UAE entry visa for Indian passport holders who book a specific type of holiday package. The offer is designed to simplify the travel process and make stays in the emirate more appealing. To qualify, travellers must book a package that includes a return flight from India and a minimum of three consecutive nights in an Abu Dhabi hotel. This deal is not available for independent bookings; it must be processed through participating travel partners and online travel agencies who are enrolled in the program. The initiative aims to subsidise up to 20,000 visas, saving each traveller approximately Dh285.
The Key: Visa Processed with Your Package
The core of this program is how it integrates the visa application into the travel booking itself. Traditionally, Indian travellers would book flights and hotels, pay for them, and then apply for a visa, facing the financial risk of losing their money if the visa was denied. This new system flips the script. The visa is part of the package deal arranged by the travel agent. When you book a qualifying package with a participating partner, they handle the visa application on your behalf. DCT Abu Dhabi then either covers the cost directly with its appointed Destination Management Companies (DMCs) or reimburses the travel partner for the visa fee. This structure means the traveller doesn't have to pay the visa fee separately, and the entire process is streamlined through a single point of contact—your travel agent. This eliminates the uncertainty and potential financial loss associated with the old 'book first, apply second' method.
How the Booking and Eligibility Works
To take advantage of this offer, the first step is to contact a travel agency that sells packages to Abu Dhabi and confirm they are part of the DCT pilot program. You must be an Indian passport holder departing from India. When you book your package, ensure it explicitly includes a return flight and at least three consecutive nights in a hotel located within Abu Dhabi itself—stays in other emirates may not qualify even if the total trip is longer. The travel partner will then process your UAE entry visa as part of the booking. While the headline suggests a pre-check of eligibility, the current program structure focuses on the travel agency managing the visa application as an integrated step. The 'eligibility' is confirmed when the visa, facilitated by the travel agent, is approved. The true benefit is that this happens as part of a consolidated package process, rather than leaving the traveller to navigate it alone after committing funds.
Understanding General Visa Requirements
While the package offer simplifies the process, standard UAE visa requirements still apply. For any Abu Dhabi or UAE visa, applicants typically need a passport with at least six months of validity from the date of entry. A completed application form, recent passport-sized photographs, and proof of a return flight ticket are also standard. Although this specific program is for package deals, UAE immigration generally requires proof of accommodation, which is covered by the hotel booking in the package. It's important to note that Indian passport holders may be eligible for a visa on arrival under certain conditions, such as holding a valid visa or residence permit from the US, UK, or an EU country. However, the free visa offer is tied specifically to booking a qualifying package through a partner agent and is separate from visa-on-arrival eligibility.
