The Philosophy: Consistency Over Intensity
Before diving into a daily plan, it’s crucial to understand Jacqueline’s core belief: consistency trumps intensity every time. She champions the idea of moving for about an hour daily, focusing on activities she genuinely enjoys. This isn’t about pushing
to the brink of exhaustion but about making fitness a sustainable, non-negotiable part of life, much like brushing your teeth. Her routine is a colourful mix of yoga, dance, Pilates, and bodyweight exercises, proving that variety is key to staying motivated. The goal is to find joy in the process, which in turn makes it easier to show up every day.
Day 1-2: Yoga and Mindful Mornings
A typical week for Jacqueline often begins with yoga, a practice she credits not just for physical flexibility but for mental peace. She integrates various asanas into her routine, from the gentle, spine-strengthening Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana) to the more challenging Forearm Stand (Pincha Mayurasana) for balance and core power. You can start your week similarly. Dedicate Monday morning to a series of Sun Salutations to wake up the body. On Tuesday, focus on foundational poses like the Low Lunge (Anjaneyasana) and Triangle Pose (Trikonasana) to build stability and stretch key muscle groups. The aim is to connect breath with movement, setting a calm, focused tone for the days ahead.
Day 3-4: Core Strength with Pilates and Bodyweight
By midweek, the focus shifts to building a strong and stable core. Jacqueline has long been a fan of Pilates, known for its emphasis on controlled movements that enhance core strength, posture, and flexibility. You don't need a reformer machine to reap the benefits. A simple mat-based Pilates session on Wednesday can work wonders. Focus on exercises like the hundred, leg circles, and roll-ups. On Thursday, switch to a bodyweight routine. Planks and side planks are excellent for toning the abs and improving strength. These exercises require no equipment and are incredibly effective for building the foundational strength needed for all other physical activities.
Day 5-6: Finding Joy in Dance and Dynamic Movement
As the week winds down, it’s time to inject some high-energy fun. Jacqueline frequently incorporates dance into her schedule, turning her workout into a celebration. Whether it's a structured class or just moving to your favourite music in the living room, dance is a fantastic full-body cardio workout that improves coordination and lifts your spirits. Set aside Friday for a 30-minute dance session. On Saturday, you might explore another dynamic movement she loves: pole fitness or aerial arts. While not accessible to everyone at home, the principle is to find a fun, challenging activity that builds confidence and strength simultaneously.
Day 7: Active Recovery and Play
Sunday is for lighter activity and recovery. This doesn't mean sitting still all day. Active recovery helps the body repair itself while maintaining momentum. A long walk, a gentle stretching session, or even playful activities count. Jacqueline has been known to end her week with a light home workout, sometimes playfully chasing her pets around the house. This highlights a key aspect of her approach: movement doesn't always have to be structured. It can be as simple as taking the stairs, walking instead of driving short distances, or simply finding ways to be less sedentary in your daily life.
