A Leap into the Global Top 25
The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore’s flagship Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) has been ranked 21st globally in the latest Financial Times MiM rankings. This places IIM Bangalore as the highest-ranked institution from India and the only
one to break into the world's top 25 for 2026. The achievement marks a consistent and impressive upward trajectory for the institute, which has climbed from the 41st position in 2024 to 28th in 2025, and now to 21st. This steady ascent highlights the growing global recognition and strengthening quality of the program.
What the FT Ranking Really Measures
The Financial Times MiM ranking is one of the most respected assessments of pre-experience management programs worldwide. It is not just about reputation; it is a data-driven evaluation based on 19 different criteria. A significant 56% of the ranking's weight comes directly from alumni surveys, focusing on their career success three years after graduation. Key metrics include weighted salary, salary percentage increase, value for money, career progress, and international mobility. The remaining 44% is derived from data provided by the schools themselves, covering aspects like faculty qualifications, diversity of students and board members, and sustainability initiatives.
The Indian Contingent's Strong Showing
While IIM Bangalore led the charge, 2026 was a strong year for Indian business schools overall, with 14 institutions making it into the top 100. Following IIM Bangalore, SP Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR) secured the 26th position, followed closely by IIM Ahmedabad at 27th. Other prominent IIMs and business schools also featured, including XLRI at 33rd and IIM Calcutta at 39th. The list also includes IIM Kozhikode (54th), IIM Indore (62nd), IIM Lucknow (72nd), and IIM Udaipur (83rd), showcasing the depth and breadth of quality management education across the country.
What Drives IIM Bangalore's Success?
According to the institute, the strong performance in the rankings is a testament to the transformational value of an IIMB education. The Director-in-charge, U Dinesh Kumar, highlighted that the institute benchmarks its curriculum and outcomes against the best in the world to prepare students for complex business challenges. The 2026 ranking reflects significant gains in several career-related parameters. The Alumni Network Rank, for instance, climbed to 19th globally from 31st last year, and the institute also saw substantial improvement in its Value for Money rank. These factors, combined with a rigorous academic program, contribute directly to the high career progress and salary growth reported by its alumni.
Why This Matters for Students and India
A high ranking in a prestigious list like the Financial Times' is more than just a matter of institutional pride. For prospective students, it acts as a powerful signal of a program's quality and its return on investment. For current students and alumni, it enhances the value of their degree, opening doors to better global opportunities and strengthening their professional network. For India, the strong and growing presence of its business schools in such rankings is a clear indicator of the country's rising prominence in the global education landscape. It validates the quality of its top institutions and their ability to produce graduates who can compete and succeed on the world stage.
