OpenAI defines this as a system that “surpasses humans in most economically valuable tasks.” This forecast is underpinned by progress with its next-generation model, code-named 'Astra', which has already achieved an internal benchmark of automating the tasks of an entry-level AI researcher. According to Chief Research Officer Mark Chen, the company is already “about 80% there” on its path to AGI.
