A Storm Arrives in Sussex
The star of the show is the Pagani Huayra 70 Derecho, a world premiere at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed. This isn't just another Huayra; it's a bespoke creation from Pagani's 'Grandi Complicazioni' division, the department tasked with building the brand's
most exclusive one-off and few-off projects. The name 'Derecho' is taken from a rare and powerful straight-line windstorm, a fitting title for a machine of such sudden intensity. Even with the newer Utopia model now in production, Pagani continues to demonstrate the enduring appeal of the Huayra platform, which first debuted in 2011. This new car is the second of three special 'Huayra 70' models being created to celebrate founder Horacio Pagani's 70th birthday.
The Grandi Complicazioni Touch
Pagani's Grandi Complicazioni division operates on a different level from typical car manufacturing. The name, which translates to 'Great Complications,' is a nod to high-end watchmaking and perfectly describes its mission: to create utterly unique vehicles in close collaboration with clients. These projects, like the Codalunga or the one-off Epitome, involve years of development and feature components designed and engineered exclusively for a single car. The Huayra 70 Derecho is a prime example of this ethos. It features a stunning transparent paint finish in Pearl Orange and Inky Blue, specially developed to reveal the intricate fish-bone weave of the car's signature carbon-fibre bodywork. This level of detail is what separates a Pagani from nearly everything else on the road.
More Than Just a Huayra
While based on the Huayra, the Derecho is a significant evolution. It boasts the most powerful road-going version of the Mercedes-AMG-sourced 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12, producing a staggering 864 horsepower. What makes it truly special for driving purists is the inclusion of a seven-speed manual transmission developed by Xtrac, a rare feature in the hypercar world and on the Huayra platform. The exterior is adorned with bespoke details, including unique wheels made from a titanium alloy and numerous components milled from solid aluminum before being anodized in a Glossy Titanium finish. The interior is a masterclass of craftsmanship, featuring Ceramic White and Tricolore blue leather, with orange accents on the steering wheel and shift knob to match the exterior.
A Tradition of Spectacle
Goodwood has long been a favourite stage for Pagani. The brand has a history of creating memorable moments at the festival, from record-breaking gatherings of Zondas and Huayras to the dynamic debuts of key models. In previous years, special editions like the Zonda Oliver Evolution and the track-only Huayra R have thundered up the famous 1.86-kilometre hill climb. The debut of the Huayra 70 Derecho continues this tradition, with the car serving as the centerpiece of the Pagani stand alongside a Zonda F Roadster and the new Utopia Roadster. While the Derecho itself is on static display, its spirit is represented on the track by a Huayra Codalunga Speedster and a Huayra R, ensuring Pagani's unmistakable V12 sound echoes across the grounds.
