A Symphony in Yellow
The mango, India's undisputed 'king of fruits', reigned supreme over summer cravings. According to Swiggy's Summer Trends 2026 report, which analyzed orders from April 15 to June 16, demand for mango-flavoured treats saw a significant 19.3% year-on-year
growth. The star of the show was undoubtedly the mango lassi, a creamy, cooling concoction that found its way to doorsteps over 1,500 times a day. But the mania didn't stop there. Mango tarts topped the charts for baked desserts, and Pune’s famous Mango Mastani found new fans in cities like Nashik, Mysuru, and Mangaluru. The obsession reached new heights with a single customer in Bhopal ordering 120 pieces of mango cake, and a Mumbaikar spending ₹16,644 on 38 units of mango gateau.
The Great Ice Cream Melt
When the sun goes down, the spoons come out. The report highlights a fascinating national ritual: a post-dinner ice cream rush. While mango had its moment, another tropical flavour gave it serious competition. Coconut-flavoured ice cream was a national favourite, with demand growing 13.4% compared to the previous year. Metros like Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad led the charge for this creamy coolant, while Surat, Raipur, and Vadodara showed the strongest growth in emerging markets. The love for coconut was intense, evidenced by one user in Central Goa ordering 60 units of tender coconut ice cream in a single go. Overall, Bengaluru solidified its status as India's ice cream capital, accounting for 14% of all orders nationwide. And while seasonal fruits tempted many, classic chocolate remained the undisputed top flavour choice.
Our Thirst for Caffeination
Beyond dairy and dessert, there was a powerful thirst for something else entirely: caffeine. While fruit juices like orange, watermelon, and pineapple were popular, it was coffee and mocha-based drinks that truly stole the show. The demand for these cold caffeinated beverages surged by an incredible 38.4% year-on-year, growing 2.5 times faster than the cold beverage category as a whole. This trend was most pronounced in Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru, where residents sought their daily fix primarily between the hours of 4 PM and 9 PM, suggesting a collective need for an evening pick-me-up to power through the summer lethargy.
The Bigger Picture on Our Plates
These ordering habits paint a vivid picture of modern India. The scorching heat makes the convenience of on-demand delivery less of a luxury and more of a necessity. Overall, the demand for cold beverages grew by 20.7%, and desserts saw a 19.2% increase, illustrating a clear pattern of ordering in to cool down. Interestingly, alongside these indulgences, there was a parallel and powerful move towards healthier choices. Swiggy noted a massive 105% growth in demand for low-calorie foods and an 84% jump for high-protein options, showing that even while seeking comfort, many consumers remained health-conscious. This data is more than just a list of popular foods; it's a reflection of a country navigating the extremes of summer with a smartphone in one hand and a fork in the other.
