A Leap into the Global Elite
IIM Bangalore's two-year Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) has been named the best in India for the third consecutive year. More impressively, the institution has jumped seven spots from its 28th position in 2025 to break into the top 25 globally,
making it the only Indian business school to achieve this feat in the 2026 rankings. This steady ascent, from 41st in 2024 to 21st today, marks a significant milestone, cementing IIMB's place among the world's front-runners in management education. This achievement is not just a number on a list; it is a strong signal of the growing quality and global competitiveness of Indian management education.
What Drives the FT Rankings?
The Financial Times ranking is widely considered a gold standard because of its rigorous, data-driven methodology. It isn't just about reputation; it’s about results. The rankings are built on 19 different criteria, with a heavy emphasis on graduate outcomes. A remarkable 56% of the ranking's weight comes from surveys of alumni three years after graduation, focusing on tangible success metrics. Key factors include the weighted average salary, salary percentage increase post-programme, career progress, and value for money. The remaining 44% is derived from school-specific data, such as faculty qualifications, international exposure, and diversity among students and board members.
The Secret to IIM Bangalore's Success
IIM Bangalore’s impressive climb is directly tied to strong performance in key career-focused areas. The institute saw a sharp improvement in its 'Career Progress' rank, which jumped to 69th globally from 90th the previous year. Furthermore, its 'Careers Service' was ranked 8th in the world, reflecting exceptional support for students transitioning into the workforce. Graduates also reported greater satisfaction and engagement, boosting the school's 'Alumni Network' rank to 19th from 31st. An improved 'Value for Money' rank and a higher weighted salary for its graduates further underscore the tangible return on investment that the PGP programme delivers. According to Professor U Dinesh Kumar, Director-in-charge at IIM Bangalore, these results bear testament to the transformational value of an IIMB education and the global impact of its graduates.
Indian B-Schools on the World Stage
While IIM Bangalore leads the charge, its success is part of a broader, positive trend for Indian business education. A total of 14 Indian institutions feature in the FT's top 100 list for 2026, showcasing the nation's growing strength in the field. Close behind IIMB are other premier schools, with S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) at 26th and IIM Ahmedabad at 27th. Other notable mentions in the top 50 include XLRI at 33rd and IIM Calcutta at 39th. This strong collective performance highlights that India is not just producing graduates for the domestic market but is cultivating leaders equipped to compete and succeed on a global scale.
