An Ingenious Solution to a Steep Problem
The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage site, faced a significant challenge during its construction in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. As the track descended from Ghoom, India's highest railway station, it encountered a sharp

This solemn structure was inaugurated on March 22, 1995, to honour the Gorkha soldiers from the Darjeeling region who have sacrificed their lives for India since its independence. The memorial features a cenotaph and a nine-foot-tall bronze statue of a Gorkha soldier standing in tribute. As the toy train quietly circles the memorial, passengers and visitors are offered a moment of reflection.
